Simon B. Elliott State Park - Penfield, PA. Enjoy a look through this mostly undeveloped park within the Moshannon State Forest. It's a quiet little getaway from the city life. Heavily wooded with thousands of trees planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps. At one point in time this area was a logging area. Most of the trees were gone, the forest destroyed here, and was prone to fires. Once the logging industry died down the Honorable Simon B. Elliott promoted the idea of making this area a forest again. Nowadays it's a great little area for camping, hiking, and even driving along one of the many scenic roads within the area.

The CCC camps were started by President Roosevelt during the great Depression to put people to work. Here in Texas all of the lakes and reservoirs except one was built by them. Caddo is the only naturally formed lake. My dad joined the CCC when he turned 16. Most of their projects were either building parks or other types of public service. Great tour and loved the deer. Looking forward to the next one.

Very nice video. That's a great idea, didn't know there was a book abt the state parks. And getting a stamp showing that you were there. That would be a fun experience for a family to do and not expensive. Thanks!

Love the video good job we use to go camping all the but we've never been to that state park mainly the state parks in the central to Eastern part of the state and we've been camping up been wilkes barre and Williamsport pa at a state park called rickets Glen state park

The little book is my Pennsylvania State Park passport. I talk about it in my Erie Bluffs State Park video. The book has every state park and forest in it with little descriptions for each park. Whenever you visit a park or forest, if you go to the park office, you can get your book stamped for the park you're at or a sticker if they don't have the stamps. I love the book. It's a great incentive to visit all 121 PA state parks. You can buy it online or at some park offices that have a gift shop.
