Diversity and the ability to relate to others are parallel but you don't need to have have someone look like you to be able to relate them, but Simon is a very important to help people relate to learn to relate to those whose are different.

I had stopped reading comics by the time he came along. As a result, when I got his figure, I put him, and the Fatality dressed as a Green Lantern, into the Green Lantern Corps as Cadets! Giving me 18 main and 2 Cadet Green Lanterns. Yes, I know Fatality was actually a villainess.
