One of the most loved episodes of the fourth series. The Troublesome Trucks get to sing again and I love how Michael Angelis sings the song in S.C.Ruffey's voice. The way the story was written and adapted for the TV was done very well. I love the part where Oliver pulls S.C.Ruffey apart, especially when the music used from 'Escape' is reused again and changed a bit 😁. Michael really puts in the effort to make the truck feel the pain. I love this episode a lot and it always holds a place in my heart.

Another nostalgic favorite of mine 🤩🙏 I love how many trucks there were in this episode and I wish S.C. Ruffey appeared at least more times alongside the other trucks due to how much merchandise of him were made 🫤🚂

Now this is what I call a huge favourite. The scene of Scruffey getting pulled apart is probably the most memorable part. I just love Angelis's voice he does for Scruffey, especially the groaning.

Now this is an episode I saw a lot on VHS when I was younger and I always love the scene when Scruffy gets pulled apart by Oliver and I have to say this I still have my Wooden Railway Scruffy which I use for my remakes and I also have the one that came with the Dynamite Ryan Train. I have known people who remind me of Scruffy and I always hope they get what's coming to them

The way the trucks sing reminds me of the Mice in Bagpuss.

Apparently this the first time Toad the Brakevan speaks ever since his famous season 3 Debut but anyway the episode plot is absolutely Masterpiece Dude & this is Why you don't mess with Oliver because he Literally pulls S.C. Ruffey to pieces but similar to the spitful brake van is squashed to death by Douglas in Season 2 but anyway S.C.Ruffey excellent Villain as well I am pretty he is one of the only Rolling Stock Villain in franchise but the way he mocks Oliver despite so physically weak just demonstrates how much power he has and Oh my God I love it and very nice reference song from Pop goes the Diesel back in season 2 but however it is another triumph win for Oliver the Great Western Engine and another one of the season 4 best episode and that's it my review of Toad Stands By & Today I ranked 10/10 so What do you think Dude! :)

In reality, S.C. Ruffey died just like in the original story. The one we see at the end is probably a new truck the S.C. Ruffey company built.

I really like this episode ^^ Though, I’m sorry, but, Micheal Angelis (may he rest in peace) in this episode, I didn’t like him as much as I thought I would. Especially for the singing parts, he just yells and wasn’t even singing accordingly with the trucks. I’m siding with George Carlin for this episode.

I respect your opinion mate. It’s always a pleasure to read other Thomas Fan thoughts on the classic series.

Tbh, I think that this adaptation is really bad. No offence Simon. I mean, it should have come straight after Oliver Owns Up in Season 3. And this adaptation just retcons the ending of Oliver Owns Up, where it was said he had learned his lesson and never made a mistake with trucks again. I also don’t like how the engines try bumping the trucks to shut them up when they were rudely singing, like they do in the original book. Edward said that Trucks need to be bumped to be taught to behave in an earlier story, so it makes the engines in this adaptation look silly IMO. Plus Toad asks Douglas if he can stay there and help Oliver, when in the TV series he never became Douglas’s Brakevan. Also I don’t like how they rebuilt S.C.Ruffey at the end of the adaptation. I think him being scrapped in the story like in the book, would be a much better ending, as it is a really powerful message to children that actions have consequences. But I will admit, the singing was spot on, as Michael Angelis always does a superb job. And the music was nice too as always, thanks to Mike and Junior. So yeah, an out of place and badly written adaptation IMO, but at least it has good music and narration as always.
