@patriciabarnes70343 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree, Cathy's song is truly Paul's most beautiful love song. It really is a magical, sweet and touching song, and, Paul's fantastic gituar playing; goes perfectly with the song. I love to hear Art singing this song, as much as I love to hear both of them sings it. Art's soft, anglic tone goes beautifully with the words of the song.

When I was 15 (1965) I wrote an essay at school about my favourite modern-day poem, explaining why it was my favourite. Needless to say my choice was 'Kathy's Song'. I got great marks and my English master was so impressed with the lyrics he asked me about Paul Simon. He was quite shocked when I explained who and what he was. It was a choice between this and 'I Am A Rock'. I'm sure either would have won his admiration! A real 20th Century poet.

I, too, was 15 in 1965, so I can and do appreciate your sentiments. This song sends me right back to then. It is sacred almost to me; that is, I feel humble and grateful when I listen to it, gratified that it was written and sung so beautifully at an age when it meant so much.

Strange but to me Paul singing this song sounds way better. His singing is right up there with his writing and guitar playing talent. He's a beautiful musician and this song is his best.

Absolutely agree. This song was written for Paul’s beautiful voice. It was nice of him to let Art sing it with him as this song is very personal to Paul. Paul’s original is definitely the best.

They could probably??? They definitely would! ;-) Simon and Garfunkel are two of the greatest cult figures of the 20th century. Their music is real music, not comparable with the dull music of today! Most of the "music" today is rubbish. S&C embody peace, love and calmness with their songs

Amazing, still as heart rendering as the first time I heard this song, a version recorded in 1969. Still relevant, and as if they are somehow singing a page from my journal. (I'm sure I'm the only person who feels like this, Please Note Heavy Sarcasm...I'm sure I"m but one o many who feel like they found my journal and composed a song) Still Brilliant after all these years....
@patriciabarnes70343 жыл бұрын
See Shells... No, you are definitely not the only one. Paul Simon penned some wonderfully, sweet poetical lyrics, but Cathy's song, is quite something else. I love both Paul and Art singing it, both have very distinctive voices and both give it the feelings and depth it requires, but, Art's voice, gives Cathy's song wings... I love both S&G... Forever in my heart. March 2021 UK.

How can a hu-man say he's gonna give up writing songs? I just don't get it Paul, and to be honest I don't believe those were your words... but I love you for them anyway. You eat breath and sleep in the music projects you have done over the years. Thanks for leading me to Graceland at such an early age. we are so connected, this great big and small world of ours... must be a dream come true to see the fruit of so may labors of love. I have often said that the biggest regret of my life was throwing a party when I was in high school and staying back home to throw a party, rather than going to see him play live at SPAC for hours, song after song. But I feel like I almost made it up to myself when I had the opportunity to support "the hole in the wall gang" - #Me&Julio

The late 60's and early 70's were turbulent times. That generation fought against social norms to provide the changes in racial, gender and social injustice that we take for granted today. This music provided some of the inspiration that fuled those causes in their quite, soulful way. These guys are icons! Much beloved. I hear one of their songs, close my eyes, and remember...

@bobx2x2 Agreed. The whole point of listening to a Paul Simon song is to remain completely silent so that the exquisite poignancy can be fully absorbed and appreciated whilst his genius washes over you. The time to show appreciation is before and after. This modern trend of shrieking and whistling during the performance seemed to gather pace as a result of these appalling "talent" competitions which now pollute our TV screens. These must be the same morons who can't find jobs. I wonder why.
