Definitely, especially if someone has an interest or vocation in music production, they shouldn't miss the studio version. For its age, one of the most incredibly well produced songs of all time. A true masterclass.

Oh, just Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel singing in front of a New York City crowd of a mere 500,000 people.

They started singing at 13 years old & had their 1st hit record at 16 years old. This concert is 1981 & they were about to turn 40 years old. Next month Paul Simon ( the short one ) will be 83 years old & Art Garfunkel ( the taller one) will be 83 in November. This is an awesome concert & I recommend it. Over 500,000 people attended in Central Park, New York City.

What's even more unbelievable is that despite having a crowd of over ten thousand people, there were zero incidents of violence, theft, nothing... and this took place in Central Park which is famous for it's crime rate

This is a Great Rabbit Hole to get into. This is their Central Park concert in 1981, a reunion. They've recorded beautiful music. "The Boxer" was released in 1969. You should follow up with their studio recording. Paul Simon is the guitar player, and Art Garfunkle is the other. "Sounds of Silence" 1964 is another excellent choice. edit: Art was the man chatting with George Harrison (Beatle) during your Carly Simon reaction to "That's The Way I've Always Heard it Should Be"

Hi Rere ... What a nice surprise here. I play a few of the great Simon & Garfunkel songs on piano and love to sing them. All of them have a special rhythm, but this one is my favorite to play. Their music is timeless and generation after generation realize how special these songs are. Thanks for sharing this one. 🌿🌿🎼🌿🌿

Years ago my parents bought their house on the outskirts of New Hope PA and right along part of the New Hope & Ivyland Rail. The train company had long since gone the way of the Dodo. In its place was a tourist-y, weekend only, few mile trip out and back train ride from New Hope. They noticed that right before and after the train passed them the train would toot its horn and they’d hear people hollering “Hi!”, “Hellooo!”, “Love you!” etc from the train. But they had NO idea why? Then, by chance, my father happened to meet him as they both stood by their mailbox looking at what the day had brought them. It was none other than Art Garfunkel!!😳🤯 That’s when it connected and my dad asked if it was him that everyone on the train was yelling to? Yep. He had a little porch area built down and a little bit away from the tracks so that he could, when he was home, watch the train and chill out. At some point someone saw him and put it together who he was. So waving at the people on the slow passing, old steam locomotive and cars became a relaxing ritual for him. Sorry that was so long, but if you didn’t know the details the story wouldn’t make sense. Keep growing and expanding your musical tastes!

Wonderful reunion concert! Thanx for sharing with us. Others will list the dzns of great songs they produced in their short duo career... Shout out to PaulSimon (the guy with the guitar), who wrote most of their music, and is such a poet that he went on to have a very long&meaningful solo career.

Do yourself a favor and listen to the studio version. I know people get excited and recommend live versions, especially if they maybe went to this concert, but the studio version is from when they were younger. The voices were clearer, stronger, crisper. There is also percussion that accentuates the mood of the song.

You're doing great Rere...I'm a retired school music teacher so that ought to somewhat qualify that statement as informed and sincere. Paul Simon would write the songs, a super song writer and poet, but Art Garfunkel, the tall one, added the beautiful harmonies . But Art sang the lead on Bridge Over Troubled Water [1970, Grammy for Song of the Year]. . The music is timeless and more young people are discovering what they are missing in music today. These guys a re very old now and won't be around much longer...may their music last forever. Forget the heavy metal covers of their songs, that's BS....those musicians need to write their own sounds and create their own narratives rather than bastardize what is already perfect.

Yep, a pair of New York legends who had split acrimoniously a decade beforehand, reunited here in their home city to a massive audience in Central Park. Live, from that gig, I suggest The Sound of Silence and Mrs Robinson. Recorded, perhaps Homeward Bound (written by Simon at Widnes train station; there is a plaque), Bridge Over Troubled Water (Art Garfunkel's voice is amazing on that one, so highly recommended) and maybe something darker like I Am A Rock or Hazy Shade of Winter (which The Bangles covered).

Paul Simon is a masterful songwriter. They were very popular. After they parted ways Paul SImon had a very successful solo career going the more Pop/rock sound, but was still a great storyteller. I'd suggest "50 ways to leave your lover" "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard" , "Kodachrome" and "You can call me Al" Loved your reaction Rere.

I've never seen this particular performance before - Paul really looks strung out here. Did he battle with drug addiction then? I've seen that very look in the eyes, face, mouth...in a younger brother who later lost his battle about 12 years ago

There are so many amazing songs by these two that it will take a VERY long time to react to. I suggest starting with Bridge Over Troubled Water, The Sounds Of Silence, Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound, America and The 59th St Bridge Song. Those will get you well started down this very deep rabbit hole. Of course personal tastes vary, but I believe that you would be very hard pressed to find even a single BAD song from them. Of course you will like some more than others, but that doesn't make any one bad

Please, please, listen to the studio version! It makes this fine performance sound like a poor cover band version. Then delve into their catalogue, which is phenomenal. Paul Simon, the shorter of the two playing guitar, is one of the greatest songwriters of the past 60 years, in a class with Lennon-McCartney and Dylan. His solo career following their breakup and spanning from the 70’s to recent years, is equally iconic.
