Kveld you’re right, but I’m still sad that we don’t have a say on Simon’s life as we do on North’s. Most of the good, moral choices of this game gets you good results, especially when it comes to Markus. But sometimes we do all that we could and we still lose. War requires sacrifices and sacrifice is a choice that WE make and the game made that for us. I think the game should let us make that choice and deal with the realistic results.

Yu Poo Man Why would it be a lazy design choice? It's not like you can't die at all in this scene and the game would be really lifeless if every situation played out the same even when different characters are present. The fact that Simon didn't give you an option to sacriface yourself is actually pretty realistic. It makes the player feel like the characters have a mind of their own. I mean, what would be the point of them having different personalities and viewpoints if they're going to blindly follow your choices anyway? War doesn't ask who YOU want to sacrifice, sometimes it just makes the decision for you.

I loved Simon. I really wish that the story developed his bromance with Markus more, especially when Markus had to leave him behind on the roof of the broadcast tower. It's too bad the game depicts Simon's values as "run and hide so the humans won't kill us", instead of standing up for what's right and trying to negotiate peace with humankind. With North and Josh being total opposites in terms of strategy for gaining freedom, Simon's is neither. He just wants to get away from the hate and violence without having a voice or agency in the matter at hand. Simon is a close friend, and yet his values are very weak and unreasonable.

I partly agree with you on that SImon is 'run and hide', but he's more than that. He seeks confrontation when it's needed, but Simon cares about the survival of his people and Jericho more than anything else. His values lie in keeping those around him safe, and if that requires running away, he would choose that way however cowardly it may seem. He seems glad than anyone else to have Markus with them, since he is someone that can do things that he himself has not been able to do when he was the leader of Jericho before. That's why he believes in Markus and respects his decisions. I think Simon's character shines the most when we realise he can even go to sacrifing himself for the safety of others. The cause does matter for him, but being able to be with those he loves and cares matters much more.

Regarding Simon, David Cage just answered on Reddit : We considered the option for Markus to have other love interests, but the amount of permutations that it would have triggered in the script would have been pretty unmanageable. We chose to privilege the relationship with North, but a relationship with another male character would have worked as well. Androids are of course totally gender-fluid. We touched upon this topic in the Eden Club scene with the Traci. One of the things that interested us with androids is that they have to discover who they really are. Maybe something we could explore more in the future?

There should have been a choice. If you were pacifist your lover could be Simon, and violent your lover could be North. I hate that the game gave you no choice, when Simon and Markus seemed to have so much more chemistry than Markus and North. I mean look at this scene alone. North says, "If you love me," that's being selfish right there, using him in a way to prove to her that he loves her. Simon gave absolutely no choice to Markus, he was going to save him. To me that seems much better. And North's lover path is probably one of the most forced relationships in video game history. I mean, if you're pacifist you go through the game making her mad and going against her wishes all the time and one hand touch and she's suddenly your lover? I don't get it. Simon consistently shows his devotion to Markus and willingly sacrifices himself without a second thought for him and for the cause. And all North wanted to do was kill the humans. Huh. When I first saw a video of Simon giving his heart to Markus, I thought 'owwww,', but now seeing the same with North, I actually like it more. Plus it seems like it's bigger sacrifice in case of North (she seems to really want to live) rather than in case of Simon (who seems kinda indifferent to the matter of his life or death, like me).
