Kids with black belts are common in Japan. That belt is considered just the beginning of your martial arts journey, nothing special.

Yeah it usually just means you've been at it for at least 4 years, not that you're a prodigy. Up until that point, promotions are formalities rather than real challenges.

Hilarious story, but makes me wonder, what does black belt really mean then? That you know so many moves? It has nothing to do with being able to actually fight? I figured a teeny black belt would take down a large yellow belt or something, but obviously my notions of martial arts are completely backwards 😂
