I agree! This scene just would have opened up a lot of problems. Both he and Matthew would have been hated by the community. That would have diminished their whole story line as well. Good choice to can it.

I’m definitely glad they deleted it as well. It would not have said much for Zebbie and his sons to have spread this if they probably would’ve known that it would have brought harm to Simon after all was said and done. Zeb is already sitting by Fishing on Shabbat…. what a horrible man if he was to spread that information to the other fisherman, knowing that Simon would’ve been harmed because of it. And in the end, Simon did not do it.

It's interesting how this would have been parallel to Matthew and made his initial failure to forgive Matthew less impactful. Really glad it was deleted

My problem with this is how Simon treats Matthew initially. Simon is worse! He isn't just colluding with Rome (like Matthew) he's a HYPOCRITE!

The "Matthew's dog" angle is interesting. I feel Matthew gets scapegoated as the cause of Simon's trouble.

Also I think of the hypocrisy of Peter towards Matthew, “ let he is without sin cast the first stone “ , Matthew hid nothing like this.

I agree, it was wise to delete this scene mainly because of the major rift it would have caused between Zebedee, James, John and Simon. The writers and actors would've had to spend time and energy repairing the trust in that relationship. The forgiveness that had to take place between Matthew and Simon was powerful enough

It makes sense they took it out because the feud with Matthew wouldn’t make sense. Simon would have hated John, James and Zebedee even more for trying to take his life.

Yes, I think it was wise to delete the scene, the story couldn't progress in a believable way if included.
