Simon seems to flip-flip at times. Even though I wholeheartedly agree with his current stated position on the Saudis takeover of Wembley Stadium at the weekend. For I seem to recall Simon championing the Qataris staging the World Cup back in 2022 even in-spite of their appalling human rights record. He made no secret of his desire to get involved in lucrative sports promotions in the Middle East that would have made him some of those Wahabbi petrodollars. Yet he's now apparently unhappy with the extent to which accommodations are being made to pander to their whims. And we have indeed sold-out to the Saudis and nobody should attempt to silence anyone else for pointing out this fact. For anyone who is opposed to the concept of free speech and why journalism should not be censored in the way that the Saudis want I can only suggest they look at the fate of Jamal Khashoggi a few years ago.

I found it weird the Saudi anthem was played...but not in a nationalisitc way or anti sports washing way. Just it was suprising and i did predict some backlash. But it is a part of Riyad Season...ot is paid for by them and its their event and they played both anthems, the saudi and the british one. I think its fine overall. Nobody complains before a sports match when both anthems are played.
