I don't think there is any other drummer that has perfected their open handed playing better than Simon. It's just amazing to watch him play right or left handed and to be so precise with either. Love it!

I have grown to hate music like this so much that I can barely tolerate it.. EXCEPT for the INSANE drumming that this man always releases from his soul! Just absolutely incredible!!❤❤❤

Just the best drummer alive in my lifetime. He just gives me possitive energie. In Toto, and his own albums, protocol etc. He is an absolute inspirator, -i'm a drummer myself- and he is absolute so musical, that actually stimulates mij brain. He is my teacher, inspirator and- i never tought i ever would have a "hero" or "idol"....well i was wrong! He hass the power to make jou musically more intelligent. And so, in life. It all has to do with desicion-making. Listen,watch this man play, en boost your overall EQ!

I agree. This particular performance is his best. The fills! The groove! Genius!

He’s been blowing my mind since I was 15 when I first became aware of him on the “White City” album. I’m 52 now and still blown away.

He accidentally hit the china when he went for the gong so he is giving the "you've disappointed me" look.

I’m not quite so familiar with Simon Phillips’s work but I can see he’s got a wealth of tasty beats and has incredible control without sounding like a machine. I was even impressed by his economical playing while he was phrasing behind the theme.

@3:58...that open hat was MAGIC!!! That kit gives me a drum boner! As sweet and sexy as it gets. His snare is always perfect...smooth as glass...rock drummer who plays fusion//prog feels and time sig's...sophisticated rock drummer...high IQ...always so calm and centered as a man. Check out his dad's band sometime on YTube...

Drumming is all about desicion making, at a high tempo...you can adjust it to your skills in making the right desicion at the right time. And live is all about making desicions, at anny phase.

It's not that complex since we perform the same exercise when communicating through language

@@apples874 No, otherwise there would be 7,5 billion Simon Phillips's walkin' the Earth. But in a way, your'e right.
@apples8742 жыл бұрын
@@jenteworrell4065 There will never be another Simon Phillips because it's impossible to completely copy his thought process. However, just like everyone has their unique way of communicating through language(with some similarities and styles borrowed from other speakers), musicians also have their unique way of playing(with some similarities and styles borrowed from other musicians). Sure, some are clearly better than others but with anything, if you put the time into practicing, you can also be great in your own way

@@241mrmark My sense of it is acting in the now on a decisions a few seconds behind you, constantly making decisions a few moments ahead of you for the upcoming moment. You sense what you're about to do in a moment ahead of you, while you're executing a prior decision.
