There is a german band since the 90's. They create minimal-electornic but the lyrics always have a philosophical/social-critical component and one song was explicitly made just for "Senso" aka Simon Says.

I believe 1 powers the computer part of the unit which handles the memory, game modes, etc and the other batteries control the sound, lights and such

9v powers the TMS1000 microcontroller, the 4-bit Texas Instruments "CPU" ... The D cells are for the bulbs and the speaker, which require a lot of power, but only 3v

Simon was a ripoff of an Atari coin-op game called "Touch Me" that came out in 1974. Of all interesting things about this, it was engineered by Steve Jobs.

it's not really a ripoff. pattern matching games and incredibly basic and not unique enough to have any claim to IP. Similar games have existed since before humans figured out electricity.
