at 7:56 the textural quality of the Oud, and Simon's impeccable technique, permits an almost percursive quality to the back melody, you can almost hear the Flamenco castanets and claps, which is very fitting for a song inspired by the city of Qantara. Genius composition and playing.

@@2021kyoto Yes, but only partially true! The dance mostly. Flamenco is an amalgamation of several cultures that made it's home in southern spain, including, and very evidently so, arabs! There is no such things as Turkish Oud, Oud as is known today was developed by the Arabs in Andalusia during the Golden Muslim Spain

I wouldnt say the best of all time or the current time my vote goes to another great master oud player... but Simmon Shaheen has defiantly helped middle eastern music and especially the Oud to grow in North America I wish him all the best his work is the greatest in North America and hope he goes on and makes greater things I am a great supporter for these great musicians anywhere they are.
