Hi folks - thanks for watching! Don’t forget, there is a 40% discount code for the Travel Kadai, available for UK residents (valid until 12 December). These fire bowl kits are normally £99, but with the discount they are £59 - a bargain in my opinion! - make a very nice Christmas gift for somebody! Link in the description box for details. Cheers!

Nice outing, Si! If you look closely, this "big" Mountain House meal will compare fairly equal to say the freeze-dried meal by Real Turmat (Field Meal) Pasta Provence for quantity and nutritional data. The "3 servings " / nutritional data on the package of the Mountain House meal is written to fit within the US Food and Drug Administration nutritional requirements for food labeling. All the best, Gordon

Great video, as always! One trick I've used on packraft trips, especially in marshy/wet ground areas, was to flip the boat upside down and either deflate it, or sometimes not even bother, then sleep on the boat - pretty decent insulation as well.

You’re energy and passion for being outdoors, making your own fun, living your best life, never letting something like a coffee pot get you down, sharing your joy with others, putting yourself out there, taking us along, and us carrying you in our hearts long after your video is over…we have been with you each week since the pandemic began and you are definitely the highlight to our long days and weeks, our inspiration, our reminder of how sweet life can be ❤

Nice adventure Simon. The amount of duck weed is surprising for late November. At least you didn't have to contend with a light icing. In a winter voyage on America's East Coast I often had to plow my kayak through thin ice along shore, even in brackish waters. Once a very thick snowfall brought my boat to a rapid halt, and I had to camp at that spot. Another time I was brought to a conclusive halt on a small Chesapeake island for a month when freeze up marooned me there. Water weed is inconvenient. Ice is game changing.

Nice looking packraft and a really small pack size. A great way to get strong coffee out of that type of coffee pot is choose fine grind. It takes longer for the water to be forced through and is stronger. Some brands will call it espresso grind. Loose grind is better for a cafetière

We haven't seen your workshop since you were re-working and old WWII German knapsack years ago. I'd love to see where you store snd how you organize your equipment. How far ahead to you plan a solo trip. How do you decide where to go, what equipment to bring and the menu. I think it would be so interesting to see the whole planning process, and then maybe the editing.

Hi Simon Great Video as usual. I’m absolutely positive that taking a packraft across/along lake Rogen, Femund when it’s windy will be a whole new world of hurt…. We have been to the area about 4 times now longest was 17 days and we went all the way to Røros. Sometimes it’s too windy to travel on the lakes at all, but the easiest way to combat the wind is going Tandem in a 16’ + canoe (we were in a 15’ prospector the first time and still had room for all our gear and food for 17 days, although we did a 6km portage over a mountain to get to Femund…..Hell….) I’m sure the packraft would be awesome for the river sections and smaller less wind affected lakes though. And hiking instead of paddling on the big lake. But then you have to go pretty light on gear…. Anyway just my thoughts…..
@simonablokeinthewoods2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a seriously brutal portage!!! Yes, I think a windy crossing of those big lakes might be a bit too far haha! A night crossing is probably the way to go - when that wind drops as it often seemed to do. 👍👍

That Tetra Tent you have is a great cross between a tent and a tarp. Darn you for showing this!!! Now I have to have one. Lol. I have been trying to decide between my Lynx 1 tent or 5x7 tarp to take camping and my EDC pack that goes in my car. If I ever break down and have to get home on foot, I want something fairly light to carry. You had one heck of a workout getting through that duckweed. Nice little set-up you put together there. Great video. Thank you.
