This is the exact same story of my godchild and her half sister (adopted Bc of parents on drugs). The half sister only knows her grandparents as "mom and dad". I tell my godchild and her sister that if they work hard and follow their dreams they can be like Simone too.

My aunt HAS 2 kids and due to certain medical issues my grandparents(my aunt's parents) so biologically we are cousins and by law they are my aunt and uncle and then my dad adopted THEM after my grandma died so legally they are siblings but I always consider them my cousins

The important thing is she was taken in and loved by two special people. She sees them as mom & dad. It reminds me of when I took in my deceased sister daughter she was s few days old. She has called me mom for as long as she has been in this world. She is 20 years old now. If I had the decision to make all over again I would. I love her just as I do my own children. I have heartfelt appreciation for Simone love toward her parents.
