Mistakes like these are completely normal in gymnastics. That's why it's possible to make an inquiry. Nobody is perfect. As an athlete, you know that too. In this case, the problem was that Chile's was the last one and all the other results were known at the time. Nevertheless, you should be aware that these results are not final. That's what the medal ceremony is for. In addition, there is only a very short period of time to make the inquiry in order to keep the period of uncertainty as short as possible. Barbosu simply celebrated too early. That's human, but she should know that something like this can happen.

To those saying Jordan didn't deserve the medal or that both should medal...here are the facts. It's not about who deserved but who earned the medal. The judges failed to give Jordan credit for one of the skills in her routine. Had they done so her score would have been higher. The other gymnast is now reclaiming the medal over a 4 second violation, not a higher earned score. That is unfair. The judges did Jordan wrong and call foul for 4 seconds...who even calculated that!?

The situation is even more complicated. The judges incorrectly scored another Romanian gymnast, wrongly deducting points for stepping out of bounds. This error placed her in fourth. Romania tried to appeal, but it was too late. During this process, it was also found that Jordan's coach missed the 1-minute window to petition. The correct scoring would have placed the Romanian gymnast in 3rd (initially placed 4th), Jordan in 4th (initially placed 5th), and Ana in 5th (initially placed 3rd). I'm angry on behalf of all three of these women. I'm so sorry. Take strength in knowing your performances inspired many. Be proud of your excellence.

The crazy thing about this is they are taking the medal away, NOT because there was anything wrong with the scoring correction, but because Jordan's coach was 4 seconds late in her score inquiry that night. The irony is that the Romanian coaches, WHO NEVER FORMALLY PROTESTED THAT EVENING, were permitted to get 5 days AFTER the medal had already been awarded and the competition was over to look through video, catch something they didn't see or raise the night of, bring it to the arbitration and they immediately give in to the Romanians and didn't tell THEM that they were late by 5 days.

Their inquiry was rejected because they were outside the time limit of filing the inquiry (by how much I don’t know). So the Romanian argument is why were the Americans’ inquiry accepted outside the time limit and not the Romanian’s?

Coaches have until the next gymnast salutes to begin their routine to submit an inquiry. The LAST gymnast however, in this case Chiles, only has ONE MINUTE because it’s the end of the competition. Her coach was over by 4 seconds. The Romanian gymnast got a deduction for out of bounds but her heel did NOT TOUCH therefore not out. The announcers all stated this when they did a replay and zoomed in on her heel. They are all former olympians they know the rules.

@@futurehofer1564oh man you need to read more about this. First of all, Jordan was in 5th because two Romanian gymnasts were tied for 3rd and 4th because they had the exact same score. However, one of those Romanian gymnasts ended up getting a deduction for being out of bounds even though video evidence shows she wasn’t out of bounds. That gymnast filed an inquiry but her inquiry was rejected for some reason. Then Jordan’s original score put her in 5th place behind the Romanians who were tied, but Jordan’s coaches realized that Jordan did not get points for a split leap she did. So Jordan’s coaches filed an inquiry, and the judges then ruled that Jordan was indeed scored lower than she should have been, and gave her the 0.1 points or something that bumped her ahead of the Romanians and into 3rd. Again, remember, the Romanians were both tied for 3rd so Jordan was ranked as 5th instead of 4th. THEN the court of arbitration said that Jordan’s inquiry was filed 4 seconds too late. Keep in mind that since Jordan went last, she only had 1 minute to file an inquiry while every gymnast who went before her had 5 minutes to file an inquiry, which means Jordan was at a disadvantage to begin with (and that rule should be changed-all gymnasts should have the same amount of time to file an inquiry). When the Romanians took the issue to CAS, they originally intended for two bronze medals to be awarded because never in the history of the Olympics has a medal been rescinded for any reason other than doping or cheating. CAS made a decision that is unprecedented and has not been done before. Now the U.S. and Jordan’s coaches are filing an appeal of the CAS decision, so it’s not over yet! The U.S. and Romania both believe that two bronze medals would be fair in this case and would align with what has been done in cases like this in the past, but in all actuality, I believe that 3 bronze medals should be given because the one other Romanian gymnast was given a false out of bounds deduction! The scoring and judging or the gymnastics floor competition was sketchy and messed up and further investigation needs to be done. Also remember that we’re talking about differences of 0.1 points between competitors here, and we can’t even determine if the give or take of those 0.1 points is legitimate or not. This isn’t something where people want “participation trophies,” this is a serious error of the judges on the highest stage of elite sports.

Truthfully, this is a mess. Barbosu doesn't deserve the medal in my opinion, Voinea does. However, Cecile Landi having as much experience as she had fought for her athlete. Give the bronze to Voinea or do a joint bronze to Barbosu and Chiles and get it over with. This has not been very comfortable for all athletes involved honestly.

I did not see it coming that they would use such an absurd reason to revert Jordan's score, I thought they would review Sabrina's routine and find that the penalty was wrongfully given so she would get the bronze. There is so much hypocrisy in team USA that it makes me puke. Before IOC took the decision (to take back the bronze medal and give it to Ana Barbosu), nobody from team USA said that both gymnasts should receive a bronze medal, but now that the decision was taken in Romania's favor, team USA suddenly wants that both gymnasts to take the bronze medal. Team Romania always said that Jordan shouldn't be stripped from her medal. So team USA is concerened for gymnasts mental health only if it's one of them, otherwise they don't care! Just give me a break!
