This is great and at the right level for anyone new to PD Simon. I enjoyed figuring out why my version didn’t work (no sound from Kontakt) and since there were a number of new moving parts, it took a little while (it took longer to download, install and configure Kontakt than the rest of it). Now I’ve made a list of mini tasks to build upon my PD knowledge including programming the Critter & Guitari Organelle. Thanks for sharing. Cheers. Lee l

this is insane man I can't believe this doesn't have more views, I'm trying to make IDM / Ambient music and I think something like this could really help me out, I'd love to get in touch and talk more :)

Glad to hear it! I think Pure Data is definitely a great tool for IDM because, for a lot of people, it's a great way to push outside your comfort zone and think about things in a different way that you would in a DAW. Feel free to hit me up and share what you're working on.

@@SimonHutchinson thanks for the reply! Im very new to all of this, still don't know music theory let alone Pure data haha but its something I really want to get into, I've been messing around in Logic and been able to get a good glitch drum beat going and a loop but Im finding it hard where to take the loop and structure it into an ambient IDM track maybe you could take a look?

@@SimonHutchinson "it's a great way to push outside your comfort zone and think about things in a different way that you would in a DAW" This is exactly why I'm getting into Pure Data. I just can't figure out how to sequence complex arrangements yet, let alone songs. Thanks for this. There aren't many sequencing tutorials on YT.

any idea how to have seperate midi channels, noteout1 and noteout 1 if I'm using komplete kontrol which is also playing an fm8 and guitar rig through it. thanks
@SimonHutchinson
@SimonHutchinson 2 жыл бұрын
You'll need to use the "Use Multiple Devices" option in your MIDI Preferences.

@@SimonHutchinson sorry so I switched to ableton to do this. I have one note out like you did it and another note2. But if I add two fm8 plugins on ableton I can’t hear anything.

Hmmm. More software means harder for me to guess what the issue is. I use a Mac and send MIDI from the IAC driver.

@@SimonHutchinson same, it's just that when I try to have multiple midi channels in complete control or ableton, it only receives one noteout and not the other there's just silence. I'm trying to do what this guy in this tutorial does but for ableton. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6CmZoFtfreBhNU&ab_channel=cheetomoskeeto any help would be much appreciated :)

hey there - at 12:47 you adjust the volume of the second feed, but I didn't detect a drop in volume. When I tried on my own patch I didnt hear a difference. Could you let me know your thoughts on that, if you have the time. Apart from this question - goddamn this is awesome!!

Thanks for watching! I'm not sure I understand your question. I went to the timecode you said, and couldn't spot what you were talking about. Sorry! I made this video almost two years ago! To clarify, are you saying I reduced the velocity of MIDI channel 2 somewhere and it didn't do anything? I have a guess: If you change the velocity of a [makenote] with a message, but don't click on that message, it won't change. In this patch I have them connected to [loadbangs], but they only "bang" when the patch is loaded. If you change those numbers in a message while the patch is open, you need to click on the message to send it. Hope that helps! Good luck!

@@SimonHutchinson hey man, thank you so much for responding so quickly, you are (excuse the pun) 'bang' on (sorry)... I wasn't triggering the changes properly. I was hitting the loadbang object, not the message object. Again, thank you for this, it is opening up so many ideas for me ;)

Interesting, I assume this won't ever run on a small ARM micro-controller probably; but should be able to run OK on something like a raspberry pi or similar SMC. Considering how expensive multitrack midi sequencers are, this seems to be a great way to make your own sequencer, maybe with some LED and knobs, to make a proper controller. Is PD able to talk to hardware in some way, or do you need to build the abstraction layer yourself? I am not sure PD does have a way to send out events somehow.

Since it works with MIDI, yeah, you can make it work with hardware (might need something like Arduino alongside the raspberry pi), and you are totally right, with this you could make a sequencer with a lot more stuff but with a fraction of the cost.

If you are on a Win 10 PC you will need to setup a virtual midi link between PD and NI synths - I used loopMIDI.

Yes! This is true! My students found LoopBe1, and told me that was an effective solution. I don't have access to a Windows machine at the moment, but thanks for the heads up!

Awesome! The only way to get MIDI data is from Reaktor or can I use something like a DAW? Keep it up!

You can send that MIDI information anywhere--your DAW, external devices, etc.--I just choose Kontakt here to keep it simple (and free). You just need to work out how your DAW receives MIDI messages, and send those messages there in Pd.
