I could watch sailing videos like this one all day long. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Robb. Watching the real thing all day long was pretty good too ;-)

canoe sailors always look like the most laidback and relaxed people in the world. They cruise on by while I am trying not to dump what should be a much more capable and stable boat.

I find myself back here, watching your lovely video again! You do a nice job of the camera work, editing video, and mixing the ambient audio with your chosen music. Bravo!

Simon Lew can you please tell me the size of your sail? Thank you.

A very nice way to sail. The rig with the red sail seams to be very adequate for sailing canoes. Do you have any more information about it?
@SimonLew6 жыл бұрын
The decked sailing canoe is Hugh Horton's Bufflehead design. A lot of sailing experience went into optimizing the rigs. Search for Hugh's Bufflehead and you'll find more info.

Hi Guys, Great video. I have a kayak with an added mast and sail but it is highly unstable. What is the secret of the stability of your modified narrow kayaks?
@FrekeOne6 жыл бұрын
leeboards I think. You also need them for going upwind to stop the drift sideways. The wind is light in this video which makes it easier to balance the canoes. Some kayaks are a lot more unstable than others.

That's a Sea Pearl sailing with you, right? I'm driving to Austin this weekend to check one out. Maybe I'll see you at Cedar Key!

Do ya know if canoes need to be registered when having a sail attached?
@SimonLew5 жыл бұрын
The laws very from place to place. Usually no registration in the US.
@OutnBacker4 жыл бұрын
Yes if you are in Washington State. Even if you just have an electric trolling motor and no sail, you must have hull reg numbers and tabs.

I notice the canoe does not have fins to keep it going straight does that mean you dont necessarily need them?
@SimonLew8 жыл бұрын
The canoes have leeboards. They are on the port side and by chance not visible in any of this video. They are not needed for going straight but are necessary to sail up wind.

well thanks for that info every little bit helps .. enjoy your day.

Good times! At the risk of sounding like a tree hugger...that grass you're standing on is the only thing holding the island together. Tread lightly

Do those have keels?
@SimonLew7 жыл бұрын
No, you shift body weight to stay upright.
@tobyque93997 жыл бұрын
Simon Lew Ah, but won't they drift sidewards withouth them?
@SimonLew7 жыл бұрын
They have leeboards, like centerboards but mounted to one side, which prevent sideways drift. They are not weighted like keels are.
