Thank you, Simon. As always, there is so much depth and breadth and detail in what you have to say - much more than just a review. I found your comments about tempo, articulation and phrasing particularly interesting, and I'll treasure that gem of an insight where you draw a connection between life and the music of Bach. Like you, I am always open to hearing different stylistic interpretations, but I do have a particular liking for a recording of the Bach concerti by The King's Consort. If you haven't yet heard it, it's definitely worth a listen.

I asked myself that question too, but to be honest I think I should move on to other performances of professional violinists. There is so much more to show. Twoset did a great job, but the magic was in the moment.

OMG, I think I have a brain problem with their names. Trust me, I know their names and I apologize for the speaking fault. But I hope you can take away something else from the video too.

Ooo! I didn't get this notification! Thank you, looking forward to it 😊 Editing to add: the style bit you went on at the end... I totally agree! Though these stylistic parameters usually get set by the teachers and institutions, etc. and the elites of the industry, I feel like. Originality get stifled because it doesn't fit the mold (how you supposed to play Bach, Mozart, etc etc.) We all have preferences in how things "should" get played... But maybe my preference isnt the "educated" one, since I am just a listener and have only a little bit of education a long, long time ago. 😅 As always, very thoughtful video. Thank you

Thank you for your comment! Yes, I also enjoy much more listening to different styles as long as it is played well. In the end we should all find our own sound. May it be due to research or just through listening to ourselfes and finding out what we like. There is no right or wrong here! :)

I have to say that I like the historical Baroque better. But then the occasional gliss may be ok in certain moments but just throws a bit of romance in it. To me, Bach was a spiritual composer. His music climbs to heaven dissonance to resolution over and over. It's like the violin sings, traveling on the notes to the next like the human voice. But of course, that's my preference and also why we listen to many different interpretations. There's something for everyone.

True, I also like to listen to many different recordings and I haven't listen to romantic ones like the Menuhin/Enescu one for a long time. It just amazes me how singing they played. Especially in the era of Menuhin, Heifetz, Hassid and so on. In part I think it comes from the gut strings, which just sound so different and beautiful especially with modern bows. If it wasn't for the tuning, I would also go back to wound gut strings. But I also think it has other reasons as well, since not all players of the gut string era played that way. I also love the HIP Baroque style, but it has to be done right to really convince me, which only a few recordings managed to do. Usually those instrumentalists were very specialized and didn't play any romantic or modern repertoire.
