good vidios it would be nice to know what they are doing with their hips and legs and what effect it has

Note this video is from 2005. Since 2005, the understanding of boofing has come a long way from the pull of the paddle, thrust the hips, crunch the torso. Paul, generally having a good connection in the kayak at the points of contact: foot rest, hip pads, thigh braces and back band are important. Not being too tight though, as to avoid getting cramp or restricting the movement of the lower back by being locked into the seating position with an overly tight back band. Some people like to push the opposing foot on forward strokes, others talk about lifting the knees or making some kind of torso crunch. These days such things are now thought to be consequential to not having a sufficiently effective forward stroke through the boof. If hip thrusting is required, the forward stroke is not lasting long enough at the lip of the drop.

Very glad to watch this essential video. Think I should watch it again many more times.

One thing not mentioned is that leaning forward doesn't just making the landing compact, but is a key part of lifting the bow. To lean forward, you lift your legs and the bow with them.

This video was produced in 2004, and as such in our view the details highlighted no longer reflects the best way to learn to boof. These days we use a torso rotation method that relies on good core stability and connectivity from the paddler's blade into their kayak. Gone is the need to hip thrust and any requirement to lift the legs. See Genotype 2 for a more recent update, however that production is also a little dated, but not as much as the hip thrusting leg lifting method.

I couldn't find that video. It sounds like boofing on edge is how you teach it now?

Genotype 2 is currently only available as a DVD. We'll be putting them on vidapp.com/ all in good time, plus a video podcast on the way we currently teach boof is in development. Boofing on edge or not, the core technique is principally the same.

Indeed so, allows the paddler to get the paddle in deeper and create a long power transfer.
