The Braking torque TB is found in terms of tensions T1 and T2, and applied force is also found in terms of tensions T1 or T2. So because we have 2 equations... TB = [T1 -T2]r .........(1) P=bT1/l or bT2/l .........(2) From above 2 equations we can find relationship between TB and P in case we know the direction of rotation of drum. The derivations of relations are explained in the video.
