Is the cell symbol around the right way? I thought that the negative electrode was the smaller side.

Yes, you are absolutely right. In the diagram, the small side represents "-" and the long side "+". It's the image of the cell that's showing it wrong, "+" and "-" should be switched places. Thanks for notifying!
