I'm about to try a cold smoked salmon this weekend for the first time. I have the same smoke tube you purchased and it smokes like crazy even when half-filled. Good tutorial and love the shirt.

Hello! Thank you for this insightful video. I would like to share a tip to light the pellets in the tube. As you fill up the tube with the wood pellets, dip a small handful of those into rubbing alcohol for a little while and then place them on top of the dry pellets. This will make it easy to light the pellets, as isopropanol is a very potent combustible, so you don’t need to use a torch. A barbecue lighter will do. Additionally, it is as safe as the wood smoke because isopropanol produces regular smoke (carbon dioxide and steam) as long as it has no additives. I hope this helps. It is certainly cheaper than a torch, so if money is a concern go get yourself pure rubbing alcohol!

Thanks for this video. I've done some cold smoked salmon over last year and they turned out great until I tried some Sockeye and it came out dry and flakey, and just tried it again with Sockeye, same results which was driving me crazy until I saw this video. I think you saved me some detective work and frustration. It's all about the fish. Cheers!

Yes. I’d vacuum seal it though to prevent freezer burn.

Around 4-5 hours. That’s about how long the pellets last.

Absolutely. Big difference between what I know as “Smoked Salmon” and “Smoked Cooked Salmon”. I wonder how many people will never experience cold smoked salmon because they don’t understand. So sad. All you need is a wooden box, a smoke tube, and chilly weather. Thanks for sharing this experience.

He's probably not a fisherman. I've seen many labels on the packaging saying "Steelhead salmon" meanwhile you and I both know that it's an Atlantic salmon. Can't really fault the guy.
