I FINALLY GET IT! I made my husband come and see my first successful feather a minute ago. I have been trying to master a feather for months! No one else ever mentioned only going up 1/3 of the way and the half heart. Thank you thank you!!!

This is an excellent video! I love how you saying to start practicing on paper and thank you for saying how to hold the pencil if practicing for a long arm machine. And the description to make half hearts makes so much sense. Thank you! Can’t wait to practice on paper and then on my long arm.

Thank You so much! Best video I’ve seen on feathers! You showed How and Why !! And how to practice on paper! You didn’t just show quilting on the machine and assuming newbies can just get on longarm and do it. Great, great teacher !

I've tried feathers on and off for 7 years! I've looked at dozens of videos, spent hours looking at the pros make feathers. Teryl Loy's video is JUST what I was looking for. A simple feather with some very simple rules to make them look like feathers! "Merge the feather into the spline" and "Go up 1/3 of the way and begin another feather." Those are the instructions I needed!!! Thank you!!

You're a great teacher, so easy to listen to and everything you say makes sense. Thank you for showing very clearly how to do this. I've been working all day to get a decent looking feather, and they all turned into ugly fingers. You've set me straight on this and now they look pretty good! Yahoo!

Now that is some of the wildest feathers I think I’ve ever seen! Thanks for the lesson and the inspiration. I actually purchased a big chalkboard so I could practice new designs over and over again. I think I spent a few weeks working on swirls before I finally got the courage to try them on a quilt. It was a seamless transition. I did a practice piece for about 15 min and then decided to put it to the quilt. It came out awesome! I’ve done a few feathers on a quilt, but I had to mark it out first. I’ve noticed my freehand feathers getting better. I got a long arm for Christmas and I love how the stitches alone make it look good, even if the form is a little off! 😂 I can’t believe how much faster it is to complete a quilt as well. I did a small twin on my domestic machine with freemotion and it took me three weeks. With the LA, I’ve complete two small full size quilts in a month! I’ve just found your channel and looking forward to seeing more teaching, technique and inspirational videos. I’m off to try practicing feathers again. 😁

Great teaching! Feathers have always intimidated me. I even wasted money on a feather ruler. Two of your tips are game changers . Stick to one type until you master it, and go up only 1/4 to 1/3 of the side for your next half heart. I am now looking forward to practicing and eventually incorporating these designs in my quilts (I have 4 waiting to be done!).
