Our class loved watching your wedge video. We especially liked seeing the indent the bolt made in the wood compared to the nail. While we laughed when you ate the ice cream, the students were quick to point out that you shouldn't eat things that are part of a science experiment. We're looking forward to watching more of your great videos! :)

I would say another thing that is at work is the concentrated force on the small surface of the wedge. Instead, if it was a flat, wide surface, like the hammer, the force would spread trough all the surface that is making contact with the object you're aiming.

Really good demo. But. The basic unit for force is Newton, not grams. Viewers would benefit from learning the right names for quantities and units from the start.

I appreciate the video and the intent. I would say that some of the ways the tools are used is highly frowned upon (er, side of the hammer) and runs the risk of creating misconceptions with young kids viewing this. Also, explaining that the designs of products lends them to different applications seems fitting. For example, when watching the carriage bolt being pounded on verse the spike, one take away may be that the spike is a better fastener. This would only be true based on application and should be addressed (misconceptions). In fact, the spike could never provide the holding power (force) created by the other simple machine: the screw. Also, a verbal note to safety in this video (though many safety steps are noted visually, e.g., goggles, the wood under the piece being split, etc.) seems appropriate. Also, the rice demo had more to offer. The forces of a wedge are perpendicular to the input force. This is demonstrated by the direction the rice moves, yet wasn't addressed. Could the top layer of rice even be colored to expose that direction more? Good effort.
