Simple Minds - Book Of Brilliant Things (Live San Sebastian - 2022)

“Book Of Brilliant Things” é um tema da banda escocesa Simple Minds e que integra o disco “Sparkle in the Rain” editado em 1984. Entre as canções que integram o vasto reportório da banda esta é uma das quais o vocalista Jim Kerr mais se identificou enquanto compositor.
Kerr refere que “mais do que a música, desde os meus primeiros tempos enquanto criança, os livros sempre tiveram um significado muito especial. Os livros permitem que as pessoas pensem por si, e ao mesmo tempo permitem o acesso a conhecimentos que foram esquecidos com o passar do tempo. Os livros, assim como as músicas gravadas, viajam no tempo e percorrem longas distâncias numa perspectiva dimensional que o seu autor jamais poderia imaginar aquando da sua criação. É por essa razão que nos regimes dictatoriais desde sempre se procurou queimar e proibir certos livros de forma a controlar o pensamento e o acesso ao conhecimento e ao mesmo tempo controlar uma nação. A experiência de meu pai, embora um homem simples, que sempre procurou o conhecimento, inspirou-me na composição desta música.”
De acordo com um artigo publicado na revista Rolling Stone, é referido que algumas das letras de Jim Kerr, em especial as de “Sparkle in the Rain” podem ser interpretadas como tendo a influência da vivência interior de uma certa espiritualidade nomeadamente através de uma leitura atenta e reflexiva da Bíblia, como é o caso de algumas possíveis re-leituras da letra de "Book of Brilliant Things".
O vídeo que aqui se publica é de um concerto dado pela banda escocesa a 20 de Julho de 2022 em Espanha, mais concretamente na região do País Basco e integrado no festival Jazzaldia que tem o seu epicentro de vivências musicais na cidade de San Sebastian. O Jazzaldia é o festival de jazz mais antigo da Espanha e também um dos mais antigos de toda a Europa. Este é um evento muito diversificado no que respeita aos públicos que assistem ao festival bem como em termos de estilos e tendências musicais que se materializam nas várias bandas que aportam durante o Jazzaldia.

Brilliant in many ways but is it just me that hears the keyboards aren't played with a great deal of confidence or fluidity at the start? Just a slight hesitation and lack of smoothness compared to MacNeil or is it Andy? this ladies predecessor? I mean, clearly she's good and has to be said looks beautiful too by the by but, hmmm... Fractionally less able on piano.
