The first of three clips from a live performance in French TV, " Echo des Bananes" 1981. A fantastic performance and Jim Kerr has never been cooler than here. GREAT!

The best Simple Minds era. (1979 - 1985)

A young band, full of hope, full of dreams, full of ideas taking on the established order.... confusing and teasing and all with a throbbing heartbeat....It was an unmitigated joy to be involved. #longlivetherevolution

@@brucefindlay Absolutely. I d say compared to other succesful bands from the same period who relied very much on songs, Simple Minds was more of a chemistry between musicians,. Every LP had ther own sonic identity.Something very spiritual come from their music.Of course we all have moved on a long time ago. You can still be proud of the legacy ! (I know all members of the band are)

Agree with so many of the comments below... They were the coolest band on the planet until the disgraceful "Don't you forget about..." And became the poor man's U2... So many fabulous songs before then, I'll go to my grave remembering them as MY band, there will never be anything to touch Early Simple Minds...

Les Simple Minds n'ont jamais été aussi bons qu'à leurs débuts, après les grosses productions et la notoriété les ont tués,comme U2 d'ailleurs.Là ils dégagent une énergie incroyable,et le son inégalé!Waow

New Gold Dream WAS and IS forever STUNNING though. After New Gold Dream it went to hell minus Up On The Catwalk and Speed Your Love To Me in from 1983. They didn't get decent again until Cry in 2002. But 1979-1982 is THE most PERFECTION period for Simple Minds.

because they came from very poor working class backgrounds and needed the money. only the middle class artists have the luxury of not selling out - mind you in from 1984 onwards everyone, even Bowie chased the dollar. If you honestly believe if you were actually talented enough to be a professional recording artist then and would have resisted then you are a bigger liar than already appears to be the case
@MrJoj19774 жыл бұрын
@@CONSIDERABLYMORE1 New Order didn't sell out, something that is paying huge dividends for them now. Sticking to Factory meant they had no hope of distributing their music in anything like the same numbers as classic sell-outs, The Cure and Simple Minds. Simple Minds fall in artistic quality is pretty spectacular. This tune is absolutely magnificent. So many people haven't heard it because of how lame (most of) their famous music is.

@pme2001 Lot of old people blocking the toilets with colostomy bag groans and hearing aid interference. Not that i'm the big sprightly gaffer i once was, but turning up to watch a bit of post punk/new wave and listening to powdered egg and stories of V2 rockets missing your house in the middle of Alive & kicking takes the shine out of the night. i was hoping there would be more talent than what was on the stage, but the best if found that night was a woman that resembled frank cannon.
