A surprisingly good comeback from Simple Minds. I don't consider myself a fan but this track is BRILLIANT!!! Incidentally, this song is being played on high-rotation (8-9 plays a day) on "Radio Creme Brulee" - an American internet radio station that features current pop/rock music from both sides of the Atlantic alongside guilty pleasures, forgotten gems, and radio hits from the 80s, 90s, & 00s. To listen, type "radiocremebrulee" in your google search field and it should be the 1st result.

Simple Minds last 2 albums are very, very good and on album by album basis over their respective careers, Simple Minds have a clear edge. I could explain why in more detail but why bother. 'Graffiti Soul' is selling well and in the years to come will be widely accepted as an album of real quality.
@faddy24

I would emphatically suggest that it's classic Minds. In fact, as much as i love this song it is only my 4th favourite track on this very strong album. 'This Is It, 'Graffiti Soul' and 'Blood Type O' are maybe not as immediate but, in my view, have more depth.

I don't believe you know a member of his family, who said he was tight with money. He just knows the true value of it, growing up in Glasgow with nothing.. It did'nt stop that rough old dog Patsy Kensit cleaning him out.. He did'nt seem to care.. As for forgetting his roots, no way, he still has a house in Glasgow! With the same glaswegian accent he's always had!

I won't disagree that U2 took off in the nineties , again I told you I'm A U2 fan from War.Hello people , taste (or lack of it) is subjective but the comment get your ears tested from someone who just compared U2's latest to JT is totally ridiculous.I don't want to get in a "who can piss farther match"but to attatch that comment to "real fans "is trully out there . I hope the initials JT don't stand for Joshua Tree, one of their seminal works.

Stars Will Lead the Way is the blatant and magnificent testimony of the fact that this band can still produce REAL classics which resound immediately in the heart in a familiar, universal way. Infectious Song! It's been in my head for days...Superb album! Absolutely stuningly good. There are NO fillers here. The album is both fresh and inventive and yet you can hear Simple Minds of the early 80s. If this album does not do well commercially it won't suprise me. Kids today listen to the most dreadful crap and the Radio stations are mostly owned by corporations who ONLY want to make money! I doubt the album will recieve it's deserved playing time. But well done boys.

Simple Minds came before U2, Bono is a Kerr copycat only Kerr is a hundred times better. U2 may sell more albums but albums sales has never dictated better material especially when the masses are so easily brainwashed by being told what to listen to and buy.

The problem is this the national music press and indeed the Television companies respond to potential viewing and listening figures. If they gave airtime and page space for genuinely great music then SM would be right up there as a commercial entity. However I enjoy that SM are still a worldwide phenomonen in the fact that their music is recognisable everywhere. albeit the 80's stuff. Graffiti soul is magnificent in every respect
@goldsaj
@goldsaj 15 жыл бұрын
You are so correct kirklott... charts and record sales do not reflect quality, if they did celine dion would be one of the greatest artists ever!!!??? The fact SM still do good business is good enough... I could'nt care if Graffiti Soul sells 5 copies or 5 million, it does'nt change whether you like the music or not... popmarter seems to think just because U2 sell more records they must be better!!? U2 are just marketed better that's all.

popmarter: - You are entitled to your opinion but i think your talking out of a hole in your rear end. Guess what..i'm going to Barcelona & will be at that U2 gig. U2 used to be my numero uno band for over a decade but they have not made a great album since 'Achtung Baby' & Bono can be a bit of tube at times. I'm also going to see Simple Minds in Edinburgh in July. I'm looking forward to that more than the U2 gig!
@sanfranbohemian
@sanfranbohemian 15 жыл бұрын
popmarter , cheers to you for you saying this is a album worth talking about! I know youre getting bashed by us SM fans but if you check it out most of us are U2 fans as well. The issue some of us have is ,in my opinion, legit .Achtung Baby was awesome , I loved it , it made up for the comercial crap that was Rattle and Hum. To make a movie from the beautiful canvas of sound and lyrics from JT was economic greed!
@faddy24
@faddy24 15 жыл бұрын
'Graffiti Soul is far more coherent, uplifting & melodically stronger than 'NLOTH'. Also, Kerr's vocals are still strong whilst Bono is sounding a bit ragged at times. SM's will never match U2 for commercial success - too late for that now - but to say they are not relevant is just spiteful & wrong. 'Graffiti Soul' is selling well across Europe despite only getting a fraction of the publicity U2 get.
@faddy24
@faddy24 15 жыл бұрын
Popmarter, you seem to measure quality on album sales and bums in seats, well Mr U2 if that were strictly the case then we would all rush out & buy the Backstreet Boys albums!! Marketing & media coverage/perception play a large part in success too. I don't think NLOTH is a 'pile of shit', that's too harsh & too simplistic. I agree that 'Breathe', 'Unknown Caller' & 'Magnificant' are very good but the rest of the album is patchy and incoherent.
@NilDesperandum777
@NilDesperandum777 15 жыл бұрын
Simple Minds and U2 were contemporaries until about 1986. In 1987 The Joshua Tree happened and propelled U2 to the "title" that both bands seemed equally poised to take. NLOTH is a quintessentially U2 effort and can be enjoyed as such. Graphitti Soul is an unforgetting of sorts, like prodigal sons returning home remembering themselves and for that fact, this record has to be considered cause for joyous celebration amongst old and new fans alike. Simply put...Simple Minds are back.
@mbenes256

I agree. I like U2 a lot, and although I haven't heard latest U2 album in whole, I don't care about "get on your boots" one bit. If anybody can point me to the U2 album on youtube, that would be helpful. Compared to that, there are NO fillers or silly songs on GRAFFITI SOUL. This album is brilliant. And I never though I'd say that about SM album ever again. 050505 is OK, but makes me feel queezy at times. But this latest album is just darn good music.
@sanfranbohemian
@sanfranbohemian 15 жыл бұрын
This might be my fault because I compared SMs latest to U2s latest .Alright , my bad. I just wanted to quantify SMs latest work based on similar genres. One of those examples is U2 , A band I totally grew up with. Let's start at the beginning. I think you should take the time to listen to ALL tracks of the new SM album GRAFFITI SOUL.I think it's FUCKING AWESOME .The best they've done in decades!! It's not U2 vs SM.

i am a big u2 fan... but i felt u2 ... really didnt think their latest offering out... and just gave out ....borring music... repeated patterns etc... eg edges riffs... coppied from other songs...11 o click tick tock lead etc... this new simple minds album is bloody great... i love it... have to give this battle to simple minds...
@sanfranbohemian
@sanfranbohemian 15 жыл бұрын
Their next album Zootropa was released in Cnada and the US in Walmart ,a huge corporate discount chian, It was , for me ,a low point in U2 comercial ventures. If SMs latest album had the corporate backing of U2..then GRAFFITI SOUL would be kicking NLOTHs ASS!!! SHIT , I can't evan buy the album instore(SM GF that is )online only baby!
