Hi Folks,
This is a quick DIY project that only requires basic construction lumber and pocket screws. The stand is made of basic 2x4 framing lumber and some scrap 3/4" plywood. I did the entire build with pocket hole joinery.
Measurements:
Width: 26-1/2"
Depth: 20"
Legs: 29-3/4"
Front Rails (top and bottom): 20"
Side Rails (top and bottom): 17"
What I use to build the stand:
- Bauer 10" sliding miter saw. (Harbor Freight - yes Harbor Freight :))
- SawStop Jobsite Pro
- Festool Router
- Festool Dust Extractor CT26
- Kreg Pocket Hole Jig
- Kreg Pocket Hole Screws (2-1/2" for 2x4's / 1-1/4" for the top)
- Kreg Right Angle Clamp
- Kreg Heavy Duty Bench Clamp System
- Amana Tool Flush Trim bit
Casters:
- Rockler Workbench Caster kit with Quick Release Plates www.rockler.com/rockler-workb...
- I happened to have these that I intended to use on my workbench but never installed them so decided to use them on this project. But as I say in the video, standard casters with a brake would be just fine and will cost a lot less.

Great video. I’m just getting into woodworking / guitar building and bought a lot of power tools. I’m working in my 2 car garage so I need to put everything on movable stands. Your video is exactly what I’m thinking and that’s what I’m going to do. Already spent a lot money on tools and this will help save a few bucks. Thanks.

I used those exact same casters on a similar cart, and I have to say, although they work as designed, they tend to get in the way. I think I prefer standard casters.

Hi E, I'm coming to the same conclusion .... they just stick too far out from the structure on all 4 sides making it difficult to move the cart around .... thanks for the comment

@@DIYwithDennis Thank you for the really nice easy to follow video. I am thinking of using the casters I have on hand and was wondering how you would secure them to the legs since the 2X4 is not wide enough?

Hi thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video. As to your question, I have about 3-1/2" between the lower side rails and the bottom of the front and back legs (yours may vary). What I would do is cut a 2x4 to that length and glue/screw it to the flat part of the front and back legs just under the lower side rails. That will give you a 3-1/2" x 3" surface to mount the traditional casters to the bottom of each leg. If you decide to use screws + glue remember to pre-drill the screw holes. Hope that helps! Dennis

@@DIYwithDennis Thank you and have a Fabulous Day! I am also wondering about the final height when using the casters under. You don't specify the final height of the table when finished. You do give us the leg length 29 3/4. Should I assume this is the final height from floor to table top? If so I will adjust it to include the casters under. Thanks again for responding!
@DIYwithDennis
@DIYwithDennis 2 жыл бұрын
Sure, no problem - the total height is 30-1/2" and that includes the leg height you mention above + the 3/4" plywood top. So, yes, as you indicate, you'll have to adjust the leg height to accommodate for the height of the casters. Let me know if you need more - thanks again!

@@DIYwithDennis How do you like it 4 months in? I can't figure out why this planer has no reviews anywhere on the web aside from Grizzly's site!
@DIYwithDennis
@DIYwithDennis 2 жыл бұрын
@@bobbygolucky yeah, I find that strange as well. so full disclosure, this is the first planer I've ever had so I don't have a frame of reference to compare it to. That said, no complaints so far. I haven't used it a ton based on the work I've been doing but that is changing. Last week I milled some rough 4/4 cherry in preparation for a home dresser and I was completely satisfied. Some snipe at the start and end of the board that I want to see if I can reduce by perhaps adjusting the infeed/outfeed tables, but the finish was nice and smooth (helical cutters). Controlling the depth of cut was straight forward once you get used to it and dust collection is good as i have it connected to my Grizzly dust collector. I may have more to say in the coming weeks as I have a few projects that call for dimensioning wood with jointer and planer but so far, no regrets. Pretty quiet as well but I think that has a lot to do with the helical cutters as I find the same with my Grizzly jointer that has helical cutters as well. There are also about 18 reviews on the Grizzly site but I'm guessing you already saw those. Hope that helps!

What is the clamp that you used called. Where did you get it?
@DIYwithDennis
@DIYwithDennis Жыл бұрын
Hi John - I think you're referring to the Kreg right angle clamp (the one that is a hand clamp) and I've had it for quite a while and don't remember exactly where I bought it but a lot of hardware stories carry a selection of Kreg tools, Lowes offers a good selection of Kreg Tools or you can order directly from kregtools.com and many of the other online retailers. - here is a link to a more recent version of the clamp from woodcraft www.woodcraft.com/products/kreg-automaxx-right-angle-clamp-kreg-khcra

LOL!! who would have thought that construction lumber would someday be a premium product. On my wood rack I have a whole section devoted to construction lumber .... stuff I would have discarded in the past, but no more. Thanks for watching and the comment! Dennis
