Simple tip on installing insulation or vapor barrier in a crawl space

We had an inspector come to check ours out, and I had to argue with him when he tried to fail us because we 'put the paper to the people'. He looked it up, and said yeah, you are okay, and didn't care to apologize 😂

You might like this one too... different inspector, different inspection. Front yard all dug up with 3, 70ft trenches for our septic... gravel all leveled out, pipes running throughout leveled correctly, and it really looked beautiful (considering). The guy said the pipes were nothing he has ever seen before and had to call his boss 😬. Boss made him 'look' at the pipes and read what it says... any guesses? 🤣 poor kid blushed so bad and explained that he has only ever seen the black crimpy piping for sewers. He was young and just learned something!

Alright, you liked the first two... and this is why I will never build another house. We had a log home built by e log homes, and on the insulation inspection (same dude as the first story) he asked how we were going to 'finish' the insulation for the actual logs 😓 I am a chick, so having told this guy that the logs are the actual insulation, then having him silently look at me like I had two heads like Zaphod Beeblebrox, I had to show his the prints that specify the logs are the r value needed. The clever bit is, we moved from the North to the South (usa) and the first inspector said they hate us yankees because we always try to reinvent the wheel. I can't make this shit up.

I bought a home 3 years ago. Found dry dusty mold in the most shallow part of my crawl space under the fiberglass insulation that was installed upside down. Redid my vapor barrier from the 50s and installed a dehumidifier with a condensation pump. Nice and dry down there. Hygrometer reads anywhere from 60% to 38% depending on time of year. Also closed off outside vents. I cleaned joists with Concrobium ( don’t know how to spell that) and reinstalled UNFACED insulation in about a 1/4 of my crawl space where the mold was. The reason I did unfaced in because above my joists there is tar paper then my subfloor. Is it ok to just take the paper off or peel it off of the other insulation they installed upside down (paper facing the ground) thanks!!!

I was starting to think I was the only person with about two feet of crawl space. My house was built in 1962 with no insulation. I still have no insulation under the floor. I will have to crawl on my back and slowly stuff insulation batts in there.

Most of them are pretty tight in my area. Depending on your area insulation may not really be needed

That’s upside down there man. You place paper to the subfloor. The paper facing on the back of crawlspace fiberglass insulation is made as a moisture barrier to protect subfloor.
