I had a a few massive panic attacks outside a week before my wedding, which spiriled into me having a general anxiety disorder, then led to agoraphobia. The panic attacks started all this off. Had CBT in a group. Helped abit. But the DARE book literally saved me from agoraphobia. I still struggle abit with open spaces and public transport, and anxiety is with me daily but at a minimum now. It's just a long road to recovery, I hope I get back to a 100% my old self one day

All phobias can be cured Andrew and it doesn't necessarily have to be a long road to recovery. Once you complete your timeline and find out when it started and challenge the thought process that created it you can progress quicker. Looking forward to you being 100% again. all the best x

Its fear of not being able to leave a situation you panic in. I've had agoraphobia 19 years. I now have it in my home. My home isn't my safe place anymore i now have General anxiety disorder 😔 NHS therapy is 8 sessions, normally CBT. Its so hard to get help when you can't get out. And you're anxious if people visit you.

A lot of therapies are now being carried out over zoom, so ask your doctor about this. Also you may find our book Conquering Anxiety helpful too. There are charities that also can offer support such as Charity No panic,. Hub of Hope can also share help & support in your postcode area.

Do take a look at our tips for emetophobia here on our channel. It’s an incredibly common phobia, and often the root cause of agoraphobia, thus once the emetophobia is cured the agoraphobia ceases. We also address this in our book Conquering Anxiety & on our free podcast ‘Making The Change’. Emetophobia is something we treat successfully frequently in our clinic & workshops so please be assured you CAN get better sweetheart. Your doctor may also be able to organise CBT therapy which can help too x

Hi thanks for the video. I've had anxiety depression for 24 years, had and social anxiety. I seem to now have extreme panic about being out the house of I am not in control about when I'll be back home again & get very anxious and angry at the person I'm with if they're in control of when I'll be home. It's that agoraphobia?

Therapy on the NHS? Sounds like a joke to me. I have had zero help in six years. My tip is to realise that it is a brain disorder and to try and ignore your brain. Easier to say than do of course but if you don't plan anything in advance and act on the spur of the moment your brain won't have a chance to talk you out of it. Making appointments is out of the question for me but having a support worker taking me out worked. Unfortunately her tenure comes to an end shortly. The (NHS) No Help Service are useless for psychological disorders so I will have to rely on my sneak up on the brain method from now on. I have used this method once and succeeded but I think fundamentally there is nothing to go out for, for me, anyway.

Hello! Thank you very much! I think it's probably impossible for me to know the reason why I became agoraphobic. Maybe there are several reasons. But whether we can find the reason(s) or not, I guess it's still possible to overcome it. I cannot believe that someone can't overcome agoraphobia just because it's impossible to know the origin of her/his agoraphobia. I believe there's still hope.

I have never known anyone blame people in the outside world for their agoraphobia! But l do very much believe in what you say about triggers, or other fears. Mine is the fear of losing control (l have emetophobia and agoraphobia) and l fear collapsing outside and not getting back home to safety. Hence the label agoraphobia. But is it really agoraphobia? I have had it for 25 years which is a long long time but l used to be free once (when my brain didn't think!). I wish with all my heart l could overcome it

Mines the same, it comes from emetophobia. My first panic attack was at work, when i felt sick, i quit the job, i couldn't get back there. Its issues around control. Thrive emetophobia book is supposed to be good. Its not the outside world. Sometimes when i wasn't as bad i could go out local, i could go out 10 times, but the 11th i could panic and have to get home, so exposure therapy is no good, its fear of losing control, and that never fully goes. I was an anxious child from a toddler.

Hi Nik and Eva I know my triggers thanks to a counselor I saw but still can't go out.One of them is health problems and suffering from complex mental health problems ie more than 2 diagnoses with mental health then other problems such a a vestibular problems and ataxia.Im scared I will collapse in street and have strangers touching me as I experienced sexual abuse which is in my head, and a big problem is incontinence problems to which there is no quick fix just pelvic floor exercises so the thought of going out ndsoiling myself in public is traumatising me I rarely go out once a week if I'm lucky, only with family and I'm always n guard to run off I warn my family I may have to run away.Im not sure how much more I can take exhausted.I did have an incident where as a child I accidentally soiled myself got in big trouble as we had a visitor I remember being in bath and my mother was telling me I embarrassed them.I feel so bad on my family.

Interesting to watch,I can't seem to figure out where exactly my agoraphobia started,it's probably an accumulation of things ,does exposure therapy work with agoraphobia or do I need to find the cause of it first ?

Exposure works. You may find that you feel the need to have a lot of coping mechanisms. Start out with the help of someone close then slowly take that away

We’ve lots of films here on our channel to help so do take a look around. Agoraphobia is trying to protect you from a perceived danger or discomfort, but this is perception only, based on a past life event. Take a look at our timeline process too as this will help locate the origin or origins of the possible cause or causes of your agoraphobia and panic attacks too

You poor thing. We hope you’re having some therapy too. Do take a look at the PTSD tips we have here on our channel. Ask your doctor about EMDR therapy which is very good for trauma as well as CBT. It’s understandable that if you were assaulted you are now cautious to go out and therefore you feel your protection response activate (this is what is termed as feelings of anxiety but it’s actually your inner protection). However do consider that the outside wasn’t the threat, it was just that 1 person who assaulted you, so you need not avoid the outside, just that 1 person. Hope that helps ❤️

Do you think most cases of agoraphobia are caused by trauma?

All phobias are caused by trauma. Either personal trauma, copying trauma from a loved one, being told about a trauma you had or transferring one trauma to another. x
