When I was 14 my parents sent me to summer camp in Indiana. After several weeks I escaped and hoped on trains all the way back to Seattle and up to stanwood where I was able to walk home.

I didn't realize catching trains was such a fine art. I had a buddy who went riding and ended up in some horrible fight in San Diego. and he's dead now but not because of the trains.

Its amazing how much iron ore was mined amd refined to make these trains amd train lines. Rock and Roll

I'll never train hop. I'm too old and slow to run. But I have respect for these old Hobos passing on valuable safety information to a new generation.

Old and slow doesn't mean you can't train hop. Check out 'jumping off the cliff' he's a senior citizen out there riding the rails.

At 55 I will be going on my first hop out in May. Just got a clean PET scan from fighting stage 4 lung cancer since 2016 and one of the things on my bucket list ill be able to cross off. I learned young not to try and hop a train while it's moving and at this age I'll be waiting till dark and a stopped train..lol

I might train hop when I'm 18, but the only way I'm going to hop on is either while it's stopped, or moving at like 8 mph and jumping on the back so if I fall I don't lose a limb.

Just don’t go unless it’s stopped that is very unsafe

Id recommend trying to catch it in the yard in that case - obv just watch out for workers.

Best ride is a grain cart or a box car in my opinion

Naa, refrigerator units. Rear heat or cool is ran by diesel generator. Warm exhaust fyi

@@dustydan7352 no I'll stick with a grain car or box car they're both safer and just as warm get rekt

Great advice, I just hopped on a well car recently, and the ladder was further away from the metal container. The train only stopped for 4 minutes. I got on safely. When the train stopped at my destination yard I waited a minute and got off successfully. It was very risky. This was only my 8th train hop. Because the ladder was about 3 feet from the deck that I laid down on, and the car wheel was not covered by deck plating, I was really taking a chance. I realize this. But where I was laying down was safe. It is hopping on & off that is risky. Next time, I will find a different car to hop on. Thank you for this video.

Metro man, if you're not familiar with a certain area where you might exit a freight train, how do you know when and where the next train will stop and if it will even stop at that certain area at all?
@Telestations2 жыл бұрын
all depends on the length of the train and if it's priority - if the manifest is short then expect to pull over at sidings often to let lounger trains pass - if ya manifest is long or priority then don't expect to pull into a siding often - if ya ride Junkers most times they pull over to let priority pass - they will also pull over to let priority behind them pass - even priority trains and hot shots do pull over if the other train is behind time - reason they pull over is cause they have only one rail line so they have to wait for the other train to pass them so they can utilize that track cause if they don't then ya get a head on collision - why trains stop a certain spots is to let other trains pass - they also pull over to let Amtrak pass - when and where they pull over ya would have to go for a few rides on the same line just to see if they pull over at the same spot all the time
@judahslion56112 жыл бұрын
@@Telestations Very well answered! Thanks so much for that thorough explanation. I do have other questions though-- say you're on a train but you're not familiar with that route and it stops in an area where you choose to get off for whatever reason-- is your best bet to catch out again going to be for you to go back to that same spot and wait for another train or search Google maps for the nearest train yard and walk there? What if no train yards are in walking distance? How would you handle that situation? Also, how does one aquire a particular trains manifest? Can it be found online?
