Wow :)

Love this illustration!!😍 can I ask how good are those watercolor pencils? I wanted to get some and I'm kind of curious. Love the way you used it for sketching🙌🏼
@iraville8 жыл бұрын
i think they are good, but i don´t use them for coloring because i prefer my normal watercolors. i only use them, like in this case, for sketching when i dont want outlines or i use them like normal colored pencils when i want some very soft colored pencils. :)

I like this illustration. Thank you. I did the same and put it on wall :) Ira, I have a question - do you prefer keeping the canvas (the paper) laying on table or you put it on an easel when drawing/painting?
@iraville8 жыл бұрын
i prefer a table . but i often fix the paper on a board so i can Change the angle a bit while painting :)

Since I don't know if you'll ever see my comment, I just wanted to restate my suggestion. If you're ever at a part in the voiceover where you don't know what to say or go silent, you can add some music to the background! Love your artwork and I found you through Doodle Date❤️

Newb question: Why use a water colour pencil? Can any kind of pencil do? Oh and I assume you didn't put water "in" the penguins, right? That was just your skill in control..
@silkeschumann72618 жыл бұрын
Any pencil could do but the beauty of the watercolor pencil is that they become invisible, while ordinary pencil show.

I don't know if you had already figured out yourself but I think the correct pronunciation of "Phtalo" is "F-talo". It seems the name of a Star Trek character, doesn't it? X-D I just discovered you on Twitter and I'm in love with your art. Keep up the good work!

oh man. I vowed to NOT pester you with questions this time. But i will... Again. First of all: I always enjoy seeing how you use white space. You create illustrations that are so pleasing to the eye but never kitsch - this is so hard to do! I think it has a lot to do with your affinity not to use pure colors. My question is: You mentioned in other videos already, when some colors separate nicely. And you mentioned your color-sketchbook. Is this what helps you remember this? I find it baffling that you know all the combinations and what separates. Or do you know: This pthallo blue will _always_ separate? As much as I love watercolors, I will never draw as much in this medium to ever figure all of this out.
@iraville8 жыл бұрын
thank you again! :) as @skulfrid already said, that the granulating Colors are Colors that seperate (not phthalo blue ist the mars black in this case).and which Colors are granulating are almost the Colors with the heavy pigments like metal pigments (Kobalt, iron oxide...), Mineral pigments (Malachite, Azurite, Lapislazuli (ultramarine is the synthetic and cheaper Version of lapislazuli)....) and earth pigments ( sienna, orche...) some granulates heavy and some more subtle. the best way to learn is really to test them and mix them and when you find a combination you really like paint the colors in your sketchbook and make some notes.oh and i dont know which pallette you use but if you use schmincke watercolors...for some reason schmincke watercolors dont granulate much (also not ultramarine, thats almost the most granulating color in every standard palette) only the cobalt Colors and cobalt coelin and manganese violett ganulate a bit more (from the Colors i have)
@GabdeVue8 жыл бұрын
@skulfrid and iraville, thanks a lot for your answers : ) Yes, I am using schmincke, but when reading up on granulation, i found unbelievably beautiful swatches of daniel smith's watercolors, but with the cheapest of them starting at 7,50euro (and the really granulating ones having names of minerals - exactly as you said!), it's a bit much for just playing around. One of the blacks by schmincke is nicely granulating. It might be Lampenschwarz. Also for some reason my mauve is granulating. I accidentally bought it twice and only one of the two does that - same brand, same size. Thanks a lot and yet again having tons of stuff to read up on and experiment with!
@iraville8 жыл бұрын
oh yes, lots of Daniel Smith watercolors granulates beautifully. not only the genuine Mineral Pigment Primatek Colors. btw "mars black" is Daniel Smith "lunar black" and Daniel smiths lunar blue is exactly the same mixture i did (mars black PBk11 und Phthalo Blue PB15) i normaly avoid mixing with black because it almost make the Colors just muddy. but mars black /lunar black/iron oxide black granulates so extremly that the pigments seperate so much that it never looks muddy (also when you mix that black with yellow) ist maybe not great for making Colors darker but ist great for granulating effects. i am suprised that your lamp black granulates. when i mixing with it everything just looks muddy. my favorite granulating Colors for mixing are ultramarine by mijello (the only granulating Color by mijello but it ganulates beautifully!!!) cobalt teal blue by Daniel Smith and cobalt violett by Winsor & Newton and now also mars black by me ^_^

Actually it's f-thallo, a very silent f, most people make that mistake and just pronounce "th" but honestly noone cares if you say it P-talo. It's cuter :p
@reivenne8 жыл бұрын
Yes but then people say ffffthallo because they can't get their mouths around it :P Easier to just say thallo

It's not that hard but you know whatever
@reivenne8 жыл бұрын
No need to be argumentative about it, it was just a general observation. I've noticed in my country (Australia) people really struggle with the fth sound because it's rarely found in english.
