Seriously, that's a great idea if you don't have a toaster oven and when properly supervised. A good rule for any cook: Don't leave the toaster unattended or use it near flammable items. If a fire starts (how long were you toasting or reheating whatever it was, anyway?), stay calm, don't panic, turn the toaster to its upright position, and merely unplug it if things get dangerous. Toasters are designed to contain small fires very well. Have a pan lid nearby to smother any flames if you're that worried about a fire. It helps to have a toaster that lays flat and doesn't have rounded or curved sides. I wouldn't want to feed a whole family using this method but for 1 or 2 people, temporarily, it should be perfectly safe -- again -- when properly supervised.
