I think the "The Invitation" hack kinda screwed its mystery theme by having the initial murder immediately followed by two more murders, followed by Bowser being locked away and Peach revealing her plan to Mario. There weren't any moments for the player to look for clues or anything like that. The broomstick room was a bigger mystery than the murder.

Yea, I felt sorta the same way when I watched on stream. It's interesting but it progresses way too fast. If it had the opportunity to be much longer or even if it kinda cut short and didn't necessarily show the end in some way it'd be more opportunity to consider who could've done it. But it is still really cool conceptually. There was another really impressive hack that had "mysteries" but didn't really feel like an honest mystery to me. Just things that were vague, but maybe I'm missing the point. The presentation felt like it wasn't really there despite being a really cool hack.

It was more about suspense and flexing hack skills. Biggest sin was the window that you can jump out of and reveal the culprit before anything happens.

I think the window thing was cool in concept. Like it's the only way to escape the house since the front door is locked, but it still doesn't work. Just wish it was blocked off until Bowser gets locked up, cause then it would make narrative sense why Mario would want to escape the house and then it could serve as an alternate ending.

I think the broom closet is a progression marker, and more brooms are added for what "stage" of the mystery you're in.

For people who don't know already, there is, in fact, a secret ending if you escape the castle through the windows right after leaving the fireplace room when you find Luigi dead. Instead of dying, you're just in limbo and are free to explore the snowy plains.

I feel like the "Invitation" hack could actually serve to set up a potential storyline of hacks- if they put in an alternate ending where there IS a way to escape the house once the big bombshell truth is revealed. Make that alternate "Mario escapes" ending the canon one, then have a sequel hack or something have the story be that after Mario managed to successfully escape the house, Peach realizes that if Mario manages to get the truth to that assembly that initially ruled in favor of Bowser, they will side with Bowser once again, so Peach, rather than let that happen, decides to lead the Mushroom Kingdom in a sudden declaration of war against the other parts of the assembly, intending to try and bring them all together under her absolute authority so she can "get Bowser before he gets them".
