"We have lost many brave men, but their sacrifice is not in vain. Our tanks now form a line of steel so powerful that all German resistance will be crushed beneath its mighty treads. Today - we will watch as Seelow falls. Along with all those foolish enough to stand in our way." Viktor Reznov

I live in Brisbane, Australia & the A7V tank at 14:51 ( Mephisto ) was on display at the Queensland Museum here for many decades & at one time you could actually climb over it as it was parked outside. When the museum moved over the river it went into storage & last I heard it was being restored but I have not seen it in years, it would be nice if it was put on display again as it is the only one left, to have it operational would be even better.

Not an expert but I think the Panther is more popular due to more modern recognition. I think at the time the Tiger would be the famous German tank that strikes fear into the hearts of it's enemies and the Panther was a secondary cheaper vehicle that had some neat quirks... and more flaws...

My suggestions are to do videos of cross sections of tanks such as: KV-2; M-18 Hellcat; and also a Tiger I tank. Here are couple of fun facts: 1. The second country in the world that had Sherman Tanks in big quantities was Yugoslavia. Some of these Sherman tanks that were stationed in Yugoslavia, they were used to make Yugoslav war movies. Also some US directors used these Sherman tanks when making war movies in Yugoslavia. Among them was movie Kelly Heroes, where Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland, and Telly Savalas were in that mentioned movie. Also in city of Novi Sad (today's Serbia) there is a Sherman tank which Donald Sutherland used it in mentioned movie. 2. After WWII, Yugoslavia made their modified versions of their T-34 tanks.Also some T-34's were rebuilt to replicate Tiger I tanks when making the Yugoslav war movies. Among these movies was movie The Battle of Sutjeska, where Richard Burton played Josip Broz Tito in the same movie. Also in Kelly's Heroes these rebuilt T-34 tanks were used there, imitating the Tiger I tanks. Somebody also told that these mentioned tanks were also used in movie Saving Private Ryan. And these are fun facts.
@terrancehood52923 ай бұрын
1:06:02 The T-34 being more reliable implies the KV-1 was the most unreliable vehicle ever made by mankind. If the T-34 is the bar for the reliability of Soviet tanks, then its amazing the USSR won the war.

The Mk 5 Tank was only sucessful in the early stages after it's introduction, for about half a year, afterwards the German anti-tank tactics were so effective in defending against tanks that they only put a minimum effort in developing tanks themselves. The stormtrooper tactics on the other hand saw great success throughout the entire war and the entente never developed truly effective countermeasures.

Back in 1941, they were making a new tank in a couple of months. Now, they spend decades to make something revolutionary. Some will say that the old tank was easier to produce, and yes, that is partly true, but also, we have a lot more knowledge now.. So it is the same difficulty. For people in WW2, it was an achievement to create good armor. And it is the same now, but armor is more complicated. I am trying to say two things, first is if you put people under enough pressure, they will create magnificent things in a short time(for the current level of knowledge), and second, is that companies sre privately owned nowadays and they delay as much as possible to justify absurd cost od military equipment.

This repeated comment about "installing a turret never occurred to them" in relation to WW1 era tanks, assuming it was not merely sarcastic, makes little sense considering turrets had existed on ships for decades... The reason that sponson, or guns centrally mounted in the hull were the standard had far more to do with the makeshift nature of using cannons, and field artillery pieces, that were never designed to be mounted in a small tank turret, so sponsons or mounted directly into the hull simply made more sense in relation to those weapons, especially since turreted WW1 tanks did exist, such as the French Renault light tank...
