You should have put warning tape under the dirt above the power line as a reminder. There is a tape made just for this that says electrical lines buried below

Always call 811 to find the power lines. I’ve done the same at my house digging a hole to plant a tree. Most expensive tree I’ve ever planted lol

Here in Indiana we call 811 (holy moly) before we dig . Has saved my butt many times when people say oh there’s nothing here .

It was about a decade ago that I cut my fiber while replacing a sprinkler head. WAY less stress, as I am out internet and TV for a few hours. But, as the old saying goes, stuff happens. Now, don't even get me started about my wife somehow accelerating into the gas meter in our suburban setup. While in reverse when her car was pointed the other way. Somehow I still love her, and she loves me. Despite my laughing at the accident, and then calming her down because I understand how to shut down the feed side of the gas meter. Utility companies are generally really good about fixing interruptions, and I am glad that your repair crew demonstrated a good fix in little time.

I don't know if this little tip will help you guys out, but we took Polaroid type pictures of all of our buried utilities and put them in an envelope that's now taped inside our utility room door which also has references points, like a window or something, and measurements! Huge help for later 😊

I laughed so hard at that basketball swish. And then the laws of physics- for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. That is: a perfect cut job on the joists = a perfect cut on the electric line! Because you are homesteading you could always poll your viewers before you dig- kind of a dial before you dig! This was a great one. It would have cost me $30 at the movie theater! Thanks for so much great entertainment!

Gary you should have a nice plan paper made-up showing all your Your water line The sewer line And your electricity line This way you know where everything is and whenever it This way you know where everything is and whenever you don't know another project you could just look at that paperwork and see where all your lines are I know I work for electric water and sewer and Gas line

I love it!!! It makes your home look massive! Sometimes, no i stand corrected, it pays off to be able to not be set in your ways or visions to be able to see and accept other views and changes ❤ I learned something new today! Can’t wait until it’s done… Thank God no one was hurt and electrify on so quick! Our lights were out for almost 24hrs! Thank goodness I had a gas generator that supported our freezer! I would have been crying over all the food loss! Don’t care that it was over 100 in the house at night but don’t mess with my protein and veggies!

My mom and dad built our home. A house is never really done. Even when they died, the closets weren't painted. Everything else painted multiple times. The floors were refinished twice I think.

Hi You all, I made a diagram of my property and measured all utilities and drafted a lot plan showing these. Despite that a bore driller came and drilled through our power to our shed and solar. Ah the best made plans, sometimes s..t happens. Then we move past it. Don’t you just love those hydraulic tools, excellent fix.

I took our drone and took aerial pictures of different stages of our new place out in the Piney Woods of East Texas. Every time some one buried a line or a septic system, I took a picture to document where the lines are. As we back filled the lines, we placed some bight orange marker tape just below the surface of the dirt to alert the digger to the line below the tape. Dial 811 before you dig.

It looked like Gary was kind of mumbling at the beginning of the video. Like he was double guessing himself again.😊 I'm glad you came to a solution though You're another step closer. Mistakes happen. It is a good idea to put some kind of marker with depth info for any water or electrical you have running underground. It was nice that the power company showed up so fast. As always Roxanne put on a feast . The food looked so good.. I keep looking at that tree in the dog run when it pops up on your videos and noticed it looks dead. That is why anytime you install electrical underground you place marking tape, it will give you a heads up a level higher than your electric line.

The roof over the deck BTW looks awesome. Also maybe consider a tracer line for your electric or plumbing are any buried lines. Hindsight of course is 2020, next time for sure
