Nice build J. Always loved that blade. Two things I don’t understand. How do you set your scribing gauge to get the centre of the steel you are marking ? And, why sand blast the blade if you then hand sand that finish off? Thanks for the vid. Nice to see you set up for n the new shop.

Could you share your heat treat process as far as the step you take with the even heat kiln. What temp do you heat to before putting the kife in? How long do you soak, ect?
@treygrubbs25507 жыл бұрын
When you are sanding, I see you using the Windex bottle to wet the metal. Is it just water, or do you add something to the water? It seems to foam a little. Are you actually using Windex? Just wondering, because your finish is beautiful.

Hey Jeremy, great video. Ever do a hand polish and notice an "orange peel" effect on the bevels. Happens every once in a while to me and I'm not 100% sure why. Btw I prefer chainsaw files for the spanish notch over the tapered ones you used here, doesn't leave a tapered notch

Have you ever tried normalizing or annealing your rough blanks before you do any grinding? Or does the 01 ship already normalized/annealled? Thanks, take care!
@ShortwickCreations7 жыл бұрын
Purchased stock metal doesn't need to be annealed as it's not hardened, and since he's not forging the metal and introducing stresses it doesn't need to be normalised.

what is that black material you use for the pins??? xD BTW that knife turned out pretty awesome, i love the detail of the polished grind lines, keep up the good work, and in one of your vídeos youve said that youre gonna change some things, in your vídeos due to the knife making... To me keep it simple, like youve been doing til this moment... Like the name of your channel, simple little life.. because of that we can keep knowing you as a person as well, and not only as a knife maker... i like your personality... keep it like that...

You used 3/16" 01 for this piece. Are you finding that 3/16" 01 stock needs a soak time in HT? I am getting ready to do a run of kiridashis in 01 and only have a propane forge for HT. The over all dimensions I will be working with are 6"×1"×3/16". I figured I would bring it up to critical/nonmagnetic, soak for a minute then quench at 150 degrees oil temp. Then two rounds of tempering at 400 for 1 hour each.

You probably already know, but panels offset from the ceiling are typically better for removing echoes than panels stuck to the ceiling.
