@nathanasimpson4 жыл бұрын
I'm so happy to hear that, I also live in alaska and I would definitely suggest living either nearby them (Willow) or buying land on the kenai peninsula (where I live). The mat-su valley is on a grand scale and is gorgeous. The kenai peninsula is a little more tight knit. Homer and the kachemak bay is gorgeous and everything is a day trip away. But we are much farther away from anchorage, and thus more mainstream grocery/retail outlets. Soldotna is a good in between for a lot of people. They still have retail outlets and are close to Homer but are only 2 hours away (as opposed to 3-4 hours).

Land sakes we have worked hard all our lives but its true the old adage..if you take care of the land it will take care of you. We still keep a milk cow and chickens and hogs and a couple beefers. I never had the gas stove, I've cooked on an1879 wood cook stove for 45 years. The memories you two will make will sustain you in the future. Its a blessing to live this way, a lot of work but nobody gets lazy. Your dogs are precious. We have 7 and a haflinger horse that Poppy brings logs down the mountain with. The grandchildren just love it here. Be blessed young un's.

My Grandfather used to fill sawdust in my Grandmother's old pantyhose and let it soak in a pail of water by the woodstove. If a chimney fire ever happened, he would throw the soaked sawdust bag in the stove and shut the door. This would cause MASSIVE amount of steam up the chimney to quench the fire. Just old pioneer back wood knowledge. P.S. I didn't notice the Grandma's old PANTYHOSE. LOL

Some people find this kind of boring, some are looking for more of a "how to" video and others are just jealous! LOL!

You 2 seem to be so very comfortable inside your own skin that it's inspiring. You both seem to love what you do and where you do it . I live in a beach front community in Florida that often feels like Paradise yet I find myself thinking your self-sufficient lifestyle is beautiful as well. Congrats on living life on your terms. Most don't.

Awesome video! Loved this type of content - I know editing a 40 min video takes a lot of time, but I would love to have more of this kind of video on a regular basis - could watch it every day!

Hi I just felt I should give a comment. I used to live about twenty miles south of Osoyoos, B.C. In the hills about an hour out of Tonasket, Wa. I lived this lifestyle for many years. 40 years ago, there was a constant three feet of snow and -20 degree temperatures. Starting Thanksgiving, until March. As you know it becomes normal. We had 14 horses, a milk cow, chickens, I had a one horse open sleigh and a 100 year old buggy I restored brand new. I miss those days, there is nothing like being a horseman, with the smells, power and love! I came over to Bali before Corona, and have been here since. It’s around 78 to 80 degrees everyday, but we have fresh Mahi-mahi and Mangoes. I look at Amerika, and think to myself, No Thanks! I will someday go back there, but I’m just gonna wait awhile, until things calm down a bit. The Gov. here wants all tourists to have both doses of the.vaxx, plus insurance, money in the bank, and no backpacks! It seems they only want rich folks, which will kill all the small hotels, restaurants, motorbike renters. I hope they don’t get that strict. Anyway I like your shows. Don’t freeze your tootsies! Peace, Dennis

FYI: when I want to make "brownies in a cup", I also mix up several batches of the dry ingredients and store them in zip lock bags for spur of the moment craving for something chocolate.

I don’t miss the sound of the dry crunchy snow. I lived in the sub Arctic for 10 years and that was enough. Vancouver BC now. Warmest part of Canada. 😍

My dream was to be self sufficient living in Alaska. I love nature, mountains and snow. Never found anyone who felt the same lol. So good to see u two making it there. The world is too materialistic. Need to get back to the basics in nature with someone u love and be happy.

I love how many different foods Eric can cook. I love my husband of 20 years very much but all he knows how to cook is eggs, pancakes, spaghetti (from a jar), rice-a-roni and ramen lol.

Get a sous vide cooker and he can cook meat perfectly. Beef at 131° (if you like medium rare) for a few hours until you get hungry and decide to sear it, and chicken breast at 150° for two hours (yes I said 150° for two hours). It's basically impossible to screw up beef by cooking it sous vide, and I've left beef in for 24 hours -- best steak I'd had in years.

I have noticed a new small appliance or pans, knives, etc, bring out a whole new bunch of recipes from my hubby.
