I had the same Taylor 414 as you except without the cutaway and noticed that you still have the stock nut and saddle and they've yellowed. Those micarta/tusq on your Taylor are basically plastic which is why its yellowed. You will get a better sound if you swap the nut and saddle for bone or fossilized ivory is even better (my personal recommendation) As a bonus the upgrade will make the guitar look newer since those parts will be white not yellowed You will get more low end and overall resonance. This is an essential upgrade on every Taylor guitar.

The back of the guitar is acting as the cone in a speaker, and since it is the material that produces the sound in the first place, it should sound perfect! The back of the tonewood box has a transponder that vibrates the back. The sound is also vibrating the front, which is generating good feedback….. why it sounds natural.

Invest in some good quality Panasonic rechargeable batteries as they will last much longer,also use a small strip of sellotape to join the batteries together for the two inline ones as this will help get them out of the unit because rechargeables are slightly fatter than the non rechargeables. Eneloop pro recommended.

@DavidPierceCHT3 жыл бұрын
This reply is rather late in coming as I just discovered this video. So you’ve probably already made your decision regarding this product. I’ve installed The internal magnets on several guitars. The first one was on a voyage air guitar, and I put additional magnetic attachment brackets and other guitars I owned so that I could use the TWA on other guitars. The adhesive on the foam stickers he is not super aggressive and I have been able to remove the magnetic bracket from inside my voyage air guitar when I took it on international flights (the airlines prohibited transporting magnets, the Chinese are super strict about this). In any case a direct answer to your question is that I have not observed any damage to the guitar by removing The internal magnetic brace.

Sound comes from the whole guitar body. Like your car playing your stereo. Small speakers inside a car, but outside the jam on boys bass is huge because the whole body of the car transmits the sound. Unfortunately, it also looks like a lot of (fiddly) fuss and bother, a bit invasive of the instrument and ending up clunky - a large box sticking out of the back of the guitar. They say it eats batteries too. The effects created are wonderful. It might be worth £250, just to see what it’s like in reality. I’m in two minds about it.

What would be the increase in volume or presence would you say percentage wise, and can it take an AC adapter?
@DavidPierceCHT3 жыл бұрын
I've owned two of these things over the years (first one got burnt up along with my home and my town by the Camp Fire in 2018). It does not have an outboard power port. You may be able to rig one with one of the usb ports but you need to know what you are doing or you could fry this thing. It does not significantly increase the volume of the instrument. You really don't want it to as that would increase the likelihood of generating feedback. It is essentially an attachable, battery powered, efx processor and speaker driver. It adds efx to the sound of your guitar by driving your guitar body like a speaker cone.
@cormacscanlan3 жыл бұрын
Tonewood state that the increase is between 3 and 9dB depending on playing style, with fingerstyle and single notes being on the higher end. 6dB (middle of that range) is about twice the volume, so the range in increase as a percentage would be about 40% on the low end to 180% on the high end.

Aside from applying effects, how well does this device actually amplify your guitar? Does it get really loud?
@DavidPierceCHT3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't amplify it a whole lot, and you don't really want it to, as that would increase the likelihood of generating feedback. The "Amp" part of its name is perhaps a mite misleading. I would characterize it as an attachable, battery powered, multi-efx processor/speaker driver. It adds efx to your acoustic sound by driving the body of your guitar like a speaker cone.
@christophermelbo3 жыл бұрын
I'm finding this out indeed. I try to turn it up and I'm getting a lot of feedback, it's a trip. Depending on the placement seems to be making feedback worse but I'm surprised that there is a lot of feedback.
@patgibsonguitar50003 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you got the answer to how it works, but here's my view of it, having one of my own installed on my Martin. The Tonewood Amp box contains an actuator - an arm of maybe a couple of inches long, that vibrates the guitar at the point of iits contact. If you look at the back of the unit you'll see this mechanical actuator, a rubber pad that makes direct contact with the back of your guitar. Without the actuator pad, it does nothing. The guitar signal is used to drive an amplifier into the actuator arm in an electrical-to-mechanical conversion, causing the actuator to vibrate, and you know as well as I that if something's (a guitar) vibrating in the spectrum we can hear, it makes a sound in the air - unless you're in a vacuum, which we can dismiss out-of-hand. Depending on the guitar, it uses it as the resonator and mixer of the combination, uniting the played acoustic energy from the natural guitar sound strings with additive signals coming from the vibrating actuator imparted vibes/sounds. Think of it as an extra set of virtual strings inside the guitar. And the signal processing and effects are a whole other subject. But that's the basic, clever premise of this amp.
