Professor Organic Chemistry Tutor, thank you for an exceptional explanation on Simplifying Radicals using the Absolute Valus symbol. Taking square roots is important along with the use of the absolute value symbol, however the absolute value symbol is ignored at times by students and Mathematicians/Engineers. The examples/practice problems shows when to used and when not to use absolute values in different cases. This is an error free video/lecture on KZbin TV with the Organic Chemistry Tutor.

NO , The sq root of x squared is +- x eg. if x = 2 then x squared is 4. So the square root is +- 2.

Because both +x and -x are solutions
@CliffSedge-nu5fv25 күн бұрын
@@wschess No, this is wrong and a bad misconception. There are no solutions, because these are not equations. The expression is being evaluated such that the number is raised to an even exponent first - making it non-negative - and then take the radical of a non-negative number. The absolute value function is equivalent, because it takes negative inputs and returns their positive magnitudes.

What do u mean by absalute value
@HungryBen-d7y8 күн бұрын
The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero on the number line, regardless of direction. For example, the absolute value of both -3 and 3 is 3. It’s always non-negative!

It's better to say "non-negative" than "positive," because the result may be zero.
