Thank you for this! SCM recommends Beautiful Feet’s ancient if you want to do it in one year, I believe. My *plan* is to use SCM early American and doing bible separately (children’s bible and our own passages we choose). We will also follow a 4 year cycle. How long were the geography lessons? Have you heard of Noeo science? It looks amazing, but is pricey.

I haven't heard of Noeo Science yet...I'll have to check it out! The SCM geography lessons for the guide I used (Early Modern) were scheduled to take more time depending on what form your child is in. Since Bible was scheduled on the same day, it took up to the length of 2 subjects' lessons, so probably 30-40 for form 1 children.

I just watched your "leaving Heart of Dakota" video... I'm in the same boat trying to juggle guides and kids. I have ages 12, 10, 9, 8, 6, 4, 3, & 1..... I'm going to try combining 3 in one guide and 2 in another.... I don't know if it will work... I may wind up going to SCM too eventually.

I hope combining some of your kids in the guides will prove helpful for you! If it doesn't SCM or A Gentle Feast may be. We recently started our first year with AGF, after using SCM for the first time last year, and it's going really well so far! I hope you find your groove whichever way you can. 😊

Great review! Did you continue using the "using language well" and "spelling wisdom" guides?
@preparingheartsathome4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, I did consider continuing on using the SCM language arts as I had no complaints about it and felt they were thorough and doing a good job teaching my daughter, however; in the end I decided to give the AGF language arts packets a try at least this year simply to make the curriculum more open and go as well as I liked some of the additional content (like drawing and composition prompts) and knew my daughters would really enjoy that. We are finished with our first term and a couple weeks into the second term with AGF and really quite satisfied with all aspects of it. 😊

I really relate to the way you prefer to do the history cycles. I just became a Christian 2 years ago and began transitioning away from a very Waldorf-inspired, somewhat pagan-y homeschool style, and I think ancient Egypt would help my kids get a better understanding of Bible history and context, but a long stretch of ancient history does not appeal to me. I'd much rather switch the second year to something more tangible and obvious to them such as early America, but I'd hate to start with ancient times and not follow through chronologically.

That is wonderful to hear of your salvation a couple years ago!! You can't go wrong with the content of SCM history guides and you're right that it would probably be very helpful to your children in learning/understanding how biblical history intertwines with "regular" history. In the end, it really is just a preference issue regarding the number of cycle years you prefer. But like I said, SCM has wonderful book choices that you don't have to worry whether they're biblically sound or not.

Oh my, my baby woke up and with the phone open and in my hand, I must have added some typos and posted before I finished my thought 😅 Thanks much for your reply. I am going to edit that original comment for future viewers to better understand!

@@preparingheartsathome the most wonderful thing about CM is not worrying over whether or not the content honors God! I am so at ease in that regard. And thank you much for this review! I'm over on their site, shopping now😊

Why didn’t you do the simply Charlotte mason science?
@preparingheartsathome4 жыл бұрын
We did use their Burgess Bird Book study with my 2 form 1 students and they both enjoyed it! I haven't tried any of their other science books though.
