The 200k a year and $40 engagement ring is kind of an insult though, and his reaction is a major red flag. He knew it wouldn’t go over well if he told her, so he hid it.

honestly i personally wouldn't even care about my ring being 40 dollars if i like it, what i do care about is the fact that he bought it on fucking temu instead of going to someone reputable or at the very least safe. my own ring was about 400 dollars just because neither my fiance nor me wanted a traditional gold band with rocks (gold jewelry makes my skin crawl for some reason and i am so deeply uncomfortable with it touching my skin, i just don't know why) so we went with someone that makes steel rings with sections in the middle of fossils and precious stone dust that almost looks like a galaxy, i care so much more about the ring being as pretty as it is than about the price and i actually insisted on going even cheaper if possible, i would've even been cool without a ring but my fiance just insisted on wanting to get us these rings for how beautiful they are

@@faeb.9618 my husband got me a white gold (looks silver but doesn’t tarnish) and light blue sapphire and it was very simple in design. I have small hands so a smaller, low profile design just works best. I love it. The corners on the sides of the stone are pretty sharp and catch on things and people so it’s not something I wear every day but it’s still my favorite piece and I bring it out on special occasions. My wedding band, however, I bought at JCPenny on sale for $125 and when it was too bent/ damaged to repair, they bought it back from me and I bought a new one with it. It’s the one place I bother to get a protection plan 😂

I love affordability and prefer a cheaper ring but it does feel like an insult to buy a $40 engagement ring. The metal will tarnish. Even for a male wedding ring or engagement ring (which typically cost less) should still be more than that.
@nikdo0816
@nikdo0816 Күн бұрын
The main for me would not be the price, by all means go for affordability over status symbol, but it is a red flag to me that he bought it from such a questionable site. I have doubts about the quality and safety of materials used to make it, let alone whether the site tells the truth about that. An engagement ring is worn basically daily, so it a constant exposure to who knows what. If he did not know the reputation of the side, then they should discuss it, but he is shutting down any discussion, so I guess he knew...

Hey! I’m a jeweler. The ring on temu is probably something called flash plated which means the gold is very thin and will rub off quickly. As for the moisanites, you can buy them for about $15-$300 for a half carat size-5 carat size. Moisanites are beautiful but they’re very inexpensive, and tend to be sold with a high profit margin. For your ring the bulk of the cost was probably the setting and labor as a good quality gold engagement ring without a stone costs around 1.5K-2K

OP doesn’t sound unreasonable. If her fiancée would simply communicate that he’s adverse to investing in costly jewelry, even for an engagement ring, then I’m sure they could’ve come up with a satisfactory compromise. But being shifty and deflecting is unearthing a major issue. They def need premarital counseling. They need to discuss finances, children, discipline if they want them, assets/prenup, romance & communication style in excruciating detail bc his behavior isn’t conducive to a healthy relationship.

It always amazes me how often people self-report in these stories. Even if everything else in the story had been successfully framed in a way that makes the OP look good, that one line would have immediately told me everything I know. The idea that a pregnant woman should not be allowed out is absurd. To give him the absolutely benefit of the doubt, for the sake of argument only, he might have been concerned based on the pandemic and did not want to expose her. That is the only reason I could think of that would not be awful, but even then, that would also mean that *he* should not be going out. It would be a "I was not sure if it was safe for us to be out" vs a "I was not sure about her being out while pregnant" thing. So yeah, this guy is gross.

The National Parks organization, as a whole, STRONGLY recommends AGAINST hiking down to the river and back in one day. You should NEVER take someone on that kind of hike without ensuring that they can handle it. You should also pack ENOUGH FOOD AND WATER in case you have to spend the night at the bottom, due to illness or injury. That way, if one person gets caught up, the rest of the group can hang around while they rest or until emergency services arrive. That is not just a run of the mill hike, it is a TREK.

Not to mention that they say the other girl "looks more fit than us"... but fitness is such a broad range of things, you can have a six pack, and be able to lift a lot but have terrible cardio, or lack flexibility. Plus the fitness depends so much on the sport that you do, hiking, to me, feels a bit like a marathon in terms of the skills you need (pacing your energy over a long time/distance, having the right food to fuel and nourish you for so much effort), and you need to train hard to do long and complex hikes; these aren't the same things that you'd need if you were a dancer, a sprinter, or a bodybuilder. Story 7: we almost lost our 3yo over the summer due to a near drowning. (He somehow got out of his life jacket) He had to be life flighted to the nearest children’s hospital. We stayed in the hospital for 3 days. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. It broke my heart to hear about that poor mom’s trauma response. She definitely needs therapy to help her cope. Her feelings are so valid but I love the way Courtney said that they can’t prevent the other kids from experiencing life. While we stayed away from pools for the last bit of summer, we will be back in the water next summer. I know it will be hard for us but we don’t want to keep our kids from experiencing water again. My heart truly goes out to that grandma and I hope she is able to find peace.

swim safety instructor here! Every lesson we do fall in training. we have the child jump into the pool, no googles, without holding their nose, then they have to get to the surface of the water by themselves and float for 5 seconds without help. then they yell "help!". We run this drill every single lesson so in the event a child falls into water unexpectedly, they have this skill instilled within them. We teach 1 year olds how to do this. swim safety is sooooo important. our planet is 70% water, kids need to know how to be safe in it.

51:05 Some guys don't seem to pick up on danger signals the way we do, but we can sense those off vibes, and so can some dogs. Once, my ex and I had a guy from a store come over to install new floors in our house. He was clearly intoxicated and reeked of beer. His energy felt really off to me, but my ex liked him right away. The store had forgotten to load the kitchen floor, so the guy had to return later-on a day when I was home alone. My ex thought I was overreacting, still insisting the guy was great. When he came back, he was drunk again, and those bad vibes were just as strong. It scared me a lot. Now, whenever a worker comes over, I make sure I'm not alone-either someone is with me or I'm on the phone with someone the whole time.

Oof, glad he's your ex. It's understandable to not pick up on those things but really shitty to not listen to your partner when they say they feel unsafe (especially if you're in a straight relationship with a woman and a man is making her feel unsafe; you should understand that the dynamics are different and that many women have had scary experiences with men). My partner doesn't always understand or see it when I say a man makes me uncomfortable but he always listens and respects how I feel, and would NEVER leave me alone with them.

Whenever we do family hikes, he makes sure the slowest one is leading the pace. And on trips where he is with someone who isn’t as prepared as they should be, the goal is always to get everyone back safely without injury instead of submitting or finishing the hike, no matter how much anyone in the group wants to. It would’ve sucked, since OP had planned the trip for months in advance, but they should’ve quickly realized they weren’t going to do what they had planned and stuck together as a group to get everyone back safely. With story #5, I recently went on a trip to the Pacific Northwest and did hikes with way more elevation gain and difficulty than I’ve done before. The group that I was in definitely had more experience than me but made it clear, “The group’s pace is as fast as the slowest hiker’s”. I pushed myself a lot on that trip and ended up surprising myself with my own ability but it was really comforting to know that if I ever reached an actual physical limit, I was never in danger of being left behind or even being made to feel like I was inconveniencing someone. While it sucks to have to adjust plans and maybe miss out on an experience or 2, safety of everyone involved should be the priority the whole time. The 2 people who went ahead should’ve known better than to leave someone by themselves. Anything can happen to people in the outdoors but the risk factor goes up so much when someone is alone, especially if it’s become apparent that the ability level/knowledge isn’t quite up to par. They so easily could’ve called the hike early and regrouped, choosing to do a harder/longer hike the next day and maybe without the more novice hiker

The thing with temu is you have to look in the description. They will advertise one material in the items name but it’s a completely different material in the description. Also gold plated, usually it will tarnish over time and leave a grey or black ring around your finger from the plating rubbing off.

Story 4: WTAF is wrong with this family that their first impulse is to ice OP out rather than reach out and help her. Even if she was an addict, addicts don't respond well to forced isolation or ultimatums. Also I think Courtney might have the right idea about Munchausen's by proxy, but I think the fact that he's pushing for her going into rehab so much would probably be that he would be given medical control over her and would probably feed more lies to the doctors and nurses to get more control over her. This story legit reminds me of the recent Invisible Man remake, where the Invisible Man gets his ex-girlfriend put in a psych ward to isolate her.

I’m wondering if the family were already quite toxic with their relationship with OP? To already just be siding with the partner is concerning, they didn’t seem hesitant at all to full life OP out. It’s giving vibes of unsupportive or unstable parenting for them to act like that right off the bat without so much as listening to OPs side of the story.

Story #1 The ring doesn’t have to be expensive but at least make sure it cost more than 1 hr of work. He is probably salary but if he was hourly his hourly rate would be about $96 per hour. So he bought her a ring that was worth less than 30 minutes of his work day! Insane!

The thing with story is 3 is that people have this mentality that women can't be predators, if a man had done the same, the husband would have punched him the same way his wife punched the woman. Or if the wife punched a man who did the same thing, the husband would not have had a problem with it.

Story 2: I used to work at a religious high school and I can confirm that they're the WORST places to work. I wore a skirt to work once that was a good 2 inches below my knee (a looser a-line) and when I sat down during chapel the skirt rose up just short enough to show HALF my knee due the type of fabric slipping over my blouse. When I stood up, before I could even adjust it, I got pulled aside by my vice principal for being inappropriate. Meanwhile her husband the principal, would let girls (who wore skirts due to school uniform) lay on couches and face him him with their legs spread or sit literally touching him leg to leg in his office. But half of my knee was inappropriate 🙃 I just pray all those kids are okay now

Story 3: absolutely NOT! 1. He won’t allow her to go out in public because she is pregnant?! She is not a birthing machine. She is a human being and will most likely be home bound for a few months when the new baby comes. Iykyk. And it drives women crazy. 2. Technically, she put her hands on her, and was told no. That is still physical assault since it is unwanted touching. 3. You have NO idea what a random person will do with your daughter. She could pick her up and run. Pull at her hair. Kiss her. What’s more traumatic? Your parents allowing one person to touch you even if you feel uncomfortable OR that your parents fought someone to protect you! I’d much rather know if I’m in a scary situation I can turn to my parents! 4. Maybe your wife notices people being “creepy” because she is a woman. It’s insane how women can say something feels off with people around them and the guys are absolutely clueless. And remain clueless even after it being pointed out.

Story 5. They ABSOLUTELY should have confirmed w their friend how experienced she was in hiking. Also, I am sorry, but hiking in over 100 degree weather is dumb on its own. So many people in AZ die from heat/sun stroke while hiking in the heat. Just having your friend come along without absolutely confirming she would be able to do it is irresponsible. They could have easily said “Hey, we would love for you to join, but we have been training and planning for 6 months and it just would not be safe for you to join this time. But we should start hiking together so we can all do a big trip like this together another time!”

1:17:29 it sounds like the person who went with them had all necessary info, and supplies except for the exspirience/training for this. Their mistake was letting her join, I'm almost certain they explained how difficult/long this hike is and the person should have been able to see the terrain of the Grand Canyon and know it would be difficult; EXSPCALY knowing how hot it was supposed to be. Also it sounds like they got the message from her that she was at the lodge when they got to the top where they had service again and that the lodge was back at the bottom of the canyon. They were already exhausted and it was getting dark, it would have been more dangerous for them to try and go meet her when they knew she was safe and had another group to go with.

Last story- my grandparents had an inground pool when I was VERY young. I fell in and almost drowned. (I don't remember it at all). My parents had pools at 2 of our homes. The Grandma needs therapy- it's completely understandable that she has a ton of trauma from that, but she needs to process it and not try to control everyone else based on her trauma.

As someone who hikes a lot of intense hikes: I've had to deal with people like this before. People who insist on coming with you, you give them all the advice and guidance you can, then THEY make the choice to not listen and THEY put themselves in a dangerous situation. Granted, I probably wouldn't have left them, but I would be pissed if months of planning got ruined because of someone less experienced who decided they knew better and didn't wanna follow my advice. I don't know if I would want to be friends with that person after that. At minimum, they absolutely would never go on another hike with me again. I'm there to have a good time, not act as mother for another adult, having to pack their water and snacks for them. I've learned from experiences like this that I just will not go on difficult hikes with inexperienced hikers, even if I think they're physically capable. I just refuse because of these exact situations.

Story 2: HR here. If this is an at will US employee, she can get fired for almost anything (minus protected statues like gender, race, etc.) Technically, if they just hate the color of her shirt, she can be fired without cause. So she absolutely could get fired for bringing an adult content creator onto a school campus. Is it fair? Probably not. If I was her, I also wouldn’t disclose anything about her boyfriend and she can technically decline the meeting or at the very least bring a lawyer to the meeting.

Story 4 - I have a theory the boyfriend is actually addicted to drugs/doing something shady and blaming her deflects all suspicion from him. Maybe things actually have gone missing and he’s been spending more money, and he was getting paranoid she’d realise. It also makes him look like a hero in the situation. If she can afford it - get a full drug test, drugs can stay in hair follicles for AGES so being proven clean would show she’d never used them. Second, I’d recommend getting a psychiatrist evaluation, fight fire with fire, it will be evidence that his “professional opinion” is bullshit because a professional disagreed with him.
