Thank you so much Angelo. I do what I call 'open eyed' medication and it is exactly what you call natural meditation. I can 'meditate' in many aspects of my life and day. I find it centres me in my job supporting adults with complex high needs. I believe living in this stillness makes me a better practitioner and supports a shine in my life. I find listening to your meditations very anchoring as I am commuting to work and anxiety appears and can consume. I have a favour to ask. Could you please increase the signal when you record. Your voice is very quiet. Even on max volume through headphones I can't hear you over the hustle of getting to work. Thanks bud,

Hi Angelo, question for ya if you have a sec. I spent a couple/few years trying to be as methodless as possible in my meditation. It is what I interpret as the natural meditation you describe. I got hung up with the total letting go. When I totally let go and I drop any effort to maintain presence or attention or awareness or alertness of any kind, I will at some point, usually fairly quickly, disappear in to a daydream like state or some other similar state. There is a thin line where putting in some effort to stay present and eventually drop the doer but still stay present in the witnessing of all that is, keeps me from entering the waking dreamlike states. Sometimes it requires more/less effort that others to stay present. So my question is, is your teaching as applied to this circumstance to fully let go and be dreamy or or to stay present/witnessing but with as little effort as possible?

What I had learnt from a previous teacher, is going into a trance like state isn't meditation, it might feel good, but doesn't have the effect as meditation. with awake awareness.

Hey Angelo, cool video. In the Theravada tradition, initial awakening is labelled stream entry and is defined as dropping the 3 fetters of 1. personality view 2. doubt in the teachings 3. holding to rights and rituals. It is the initial awakening to nirvana by actually experiencing it that allows these things to occur, in that tradition. So i'm curious in your system how that would translate. You have mentioned no-self is a later realization. What would you define as Nirvana? The non-dual state? Also, I guess I am assuming you are talking about the same thing that Theravada Buddhism is. You seem to say someone can awaken, then realize non-dual or not self or vice versa. Is the main difference between non-dual and pure consciousness the sense of the observer being present versus just bare experience being present? Additionally, I feel like I've been making some progress on my understanding of not self, but sometimes when it feels like the dissolving of self is accelerating I get a rush of adrenaline and I say hello to my little friend, Ego. Is this just part of it all or is there a way around that?

Yes what I see people go through that I typically call first awakening is roughly equivalent to stream entry. With that said there is variation in the initial depth of awakening. Thorough No-Self/Anatta is a much, deeper and more refined realization. It is the literal end of the illusion, sense, and experience of self. There are earlier glimpses of no-self that are not stable thoroughgoing anatta that often occur with or after awakening. Nibbana translates to quenching or blown out so it could mean anatta, or it could mean Sunyata (emptiness) depending on how you interpret it :) I'm not a Buddhist scholar but I understand there is a lot of disagreement on that exact meaning as far as realization.

@@SimplyAlwaysAwake Wow Angelo, you're not an anesthesiologist, KZbinr, AND Buddhist scholar? Step up your game! ;) That makes sense, what you say about deepening levels seems to correspond to different fetters that drop with deeper awakening up to Arahant in that system. I notice in myself and others the tendency to need to be clear on these outlines and compare to others almost for reassurance, which isn't inherently bad. But shifting more out of the analysis and being a " light unto myself" would probably help! It would sure be cool if an understanding of Karma somehow came along with deeper awakening. Do you think you will ever address the subject or have you? Some traditions get really specific about karma and say if you are a stream enterer, you won't be reborn more than 7 lifetimes, or an awakened person would never lie etc. Is understanding the tit for tat of Karma one of those imponderables which would just make someone's head implode?

@@westonbarter8309 good questions about karma. The approach I generally recommend is continue to clarify realization, at sone point not only will these questions completely dissolve, but you’ll also see the mechanism whereby they bound our ways of seeing and experiencing reality, agency, doership etc.

Hey Angelo😀 Shikantaza (dunno if that's correct spelling sorry) sounds a bit like a channeling, in the sense that you empty the you to enter that "state". I think channelers would liken it to raising your consciousness. But I think this is the practice enlightenment (Dogen) I heard you speak of. Effortless effort. I have also noticed that this place of natural meditation is the same place sometimes find myself spontaneously where I reach a flow state where there's no time space, but being, as in the activity being performed but there's just this happening. It's described as effortless being where it's so easy and natural. I often remark to my coworker why can't I hit this place more often. Everything happens effortlessly easily. Flow is the only word. It's meditation flowing in the real time dimension. I'm being meditated out of the frame. Thanks for the instructions - this is similar to the practice I most enjoy. I combine it with walking in circles. Don't know why I walk, just enjoy it more than sitting 😂

As I was listening I was clearly in a very open space. The sunlight suddenly got very bright as a hole in the clouds revealed the sun that was near the end of a solar eclipse. I wasn't thinking about the eclipse the moment before, but I found myself immediately getting up to find my eclipse glasses to catch one final glimpse before the moon continued its journey. Just a good example of how our bodies will do what's appropriate, full trust. Thinking isn't always necessary to act

I'm still making my way through your book. For formal meditation sessions, would you recommend sometimes doing natural meditation and sometimes doing self-inquiry (not necessarily the whole time)?
