Lufthansa serves two hot meals only on day flights. For example I just recently flew with Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Seattle and I got two hot meals because it was a day flight.

How recently? Because they rolled out a new economy service end of last year that cuts short on the second hot meal. Even on day flights. That box they got is the most you'll get offered now... In premium Economy you still get 2 hot meals.

I took a A340-600 years ago from HKG-MUC, it's my first long-haul flight to Europe, and it's memorable, I rob that time they did have menu card and kids' toys (I was around 10) That experience was awesome !

I have flown Lufthansa for the last 4 years from Melbourne Australia to Dublin Ireland via Asian hubs, Bangkok (Thai Airways) Singapore (Singapore Airlines). Both of these Lufthansa partners are world class.Flights from said airports to Dublin via Frankfurt were fantastic. Friendly crew , can do, nothing is a problem, comfortable and clean aircraft. The thing about the menu cards and a few other amenities within Lufthansa group is that you would probably not get it on routes between Europe and North America. However if you choose their routes between Europe and East Asia (China, Japan), you are likely to get more. I personally flew both economy and business class on Lufthansa group’s flight across Atlantic and euro Asia continent and I can tell that there are much more to expect on flights to Asia.

I think Lufthansa did not get their 5 stars for aspects like passenger comfort,... its more about working conditions for pilots and crew members, ground services,... being accomodating to passengers and so on... you know what I mean. No airline beats Lufthansa in this!

From my pov Lufthansa is a really good airline about number of destinations served and especially for the fact that you are sure to have a nice service, to not arrive late, no flight cancelled, etc... All things a traveller always appreciates a lot: the security to arrive and that everything will go as planned 99% of times. However, as all of you said, I also don't think Lufthansa should be considered a "5-star airline", due to his poor onboard service quality in both business and economy class. They really can do much better with this airline.

He pointed out to have his expectations oriented at the 5*-Skytrax-rating and the service offered in eco of other 5* airlines. If they don't deliver amenity kits and menu cards as the other 5* do in eco, LH can't get the points. That's brutally honest - but an important information for me when booking my next flight. If you claim to play Champions League, you should be good enough.

They aren't additional. In lufthansa a349-600 the economy class toilets are only "underground". No toilets in the cabin, even in the tail. It's a very cool feature. Less caos and passengers rows in the cabin

I flew on the exact route with the A340-600 in September 2017. The differences were that I had two hot meals if I remember correctly, there were no drinks and snacks in the galley, and they didn't hand out water bottles.

Typical thing with Lufthansa has always been "Very good, BUT..." Comfortable seat BUT could be more legroom. Food will be very tasty BUT portions could be larger, Plane will leave on time BUT messy boarding procedure. I could go on and on- For as long as I've flown them they need very little effort to just bring the experience up a notch BUT when they make changes, they leave out other things which cancel out the progress or feeling it was a perfect flight. Lufthansa is still a great airline and I gladly fly them, BUT I'd gladly use a better airline on same route if given the choice. It's a German thing- "Very good, BUT... falls just an inch short of expectations"

14:05 is a general improvement as previously LH only have drinks at your self-service area. Overall LH is a solid airline would like to fly them someday. But I don't think they deserve the 5 star rating unless they invest some money in the passenger experience like giving an amenity kit for flights over 12 hours, more legroom in the economy seat and serving a hot breakfast instead of a cold one would make it a bit more deserving IMHO.

Emirates is declining. I hope Lufthansa doesn't decline more in the coming years. Lufthansa was a 5 star airline before it was downgraded in 2022. I've flown on Lufthansa's Boeing 747 from America to India and with a stopover in Germany. I was 5 at that time, I flown it in 2014. It was amazing, I sat in economy btw.

I flew Denver - Frankfurt -Delhi and Delhi - Munich - Denver all on Lufthansa Economy this January. The aircrafts were diverse from a 747-400 on Den-Fra, and 380 on Fra-Del, 340-600 on Del-Muc and 350-900 on Muc-Del. Lufthansa was fairly better than BA in all respect (my go-to for US-India trips) but their seats were better. I particularly loved the 340-600 just because it's so comfortable. The 350-900 and 380 were similar products, the cabins felt newer and fresher. The 747-400 was better than the older BA 747-400s. I was disappointed with the meals. BA won that hands down. Another good thing about LH is that both Frankfurt and especially Munich are such well organized airports in comparison to Heathrow. I am not comparing EK, QR or EY here their products are on a different league. I think it's fair to compare BA, KLM, AA, UA, DL and LH as a combination of 4* airlines. The middle eastern and the Asian 5* airlines are just too good.

But TBH, I don't get Turkish Airlines either, the airline people are *insisting* is more deserving than Lufthansa for the 5-star rating: - pre-COVID-19-pocalypse, much higher fares for SE Asia-EU flights than the Taiwanese carriers - ALL of their 777s and A330s have the ancient 2-3-2 Business Class (and even their new BC product on the 787 was received not well due to low space). Much smaller carriers like MH and PR beat them in having 1-2-1 BC offerings. - so many people on forums complaining about missing luggage with TK flights - Turkey's politics leave a lot to be desired

I think what makes Lufthansa 5 stars is the services and how well established the airline is...Their first class service at Frankfurt offers a whole terminal for their guests...Also, most airlines would only offer a voucher on a 4hr delay plus! Finally, there website is quite possibly the best airline website out there...Lufthansa are also helping massively at the moment with their deliveries of protective equipment during COVID-19!

Not having checkin luggage was the factor that made me decide for Avianca instead of KLM for my trip to Barcelona last August, leaving from Aruba. KLM is a little shorter in the long haul leg but the price was nearly 100 US more but without seat choosing nor checkin luggage.

I know what you mean. The first class seats were definitely wide and luxurious. The business class seats didn't look too much wider than economy but they were spaced much further apart from each other, side by side and good legroom. The premium economy hardly looked any different from economy, what was the difference between them?

I'm not sure I would ever expect an amenity kit flying long haul economy. The superb EVA Air used to provide disposable slippers and eye masks on their long haul B777 flights from Europe to Asia, but I think they may have stopped this now. I've twice flown long haul on A340-500 aircraft - to be honest they're basically ok when 2-4-2 seating configuration but compared to the Boeing 777 or Airbus A350 they definitely feel slightly cramped inside. The large number of downstairs toilets on this flight are an excellent novelty! I do like the slightly vintage feel about flying on the A340 now and will definitely be sad when they are all finally withdrawn.

The ceramic main dish is from premium economy. They serve the same meal in PEY but in ceramics plates. Therefore I think it is just what left from PEY given that many people go for the chicken teriyaki dish over the vegetarian pasta

@17:38, I believe it depends on what is being served, also nonhub based airliners have a short turn around window, the pieces of rubbish in the front set pocket is a contractor's lazy staff issue not Lufthansa's and that trend is on the rise throughout the world. I flew to HND on NH and returned on LH. The difference was so obvious. I was also surprised to have received cold meal. I think LH started this practice this year. Snack bar from HND to FRA had many choices though. Overall solid airline, but I will fly if the price is cheap.

Totally agree with your summary David. I`ve always found Lufthansa to be a reliable, solid 4-star airline. Just not special enough to raise it to 5 stars.
