Well, it's back to the drawing board for me. It didn't work. So, I'll "mull it over" and see if I can figure out what I did wrong.

A few tips that might help - use a dark colour distress oxide (I haven't tried it yet with other inks and I definitely wouldn't use it with something like Archival as it is permanent and could stain/damage the plate), the magazine image you use is important to how successful the outcome is I found the glossy mags were the best (Vogue/Cosmopolitan/Marie Claire) and images with strong light dark contrast so there is something to resist, hope that all helps, good luck!

Erica Evans - Simply Craft I haven't given on it, lol. It must have been the day for not so good crafting. Almost anything I touched was yuck! I used the Black Soot Oxide and a picture from a magazine that I had success with the paint resist. Next attempt I'll try a different magazine. Maybe I'll have time this afternoon. Fingers crossed!

you could seal your print by adding a layer of matt medium to your gel plate and printing a clear layer of gel medium over your oxide inks.

Puisque vous avez la gentillesse de me répondre et que je ne comprends pas l'anglais je vous poserai 2 questions : 1* j'ai l'impression que lorsque vous passez le rouleau sur la gel press vous ne faites pas un va et vient mais vous roulez toujours dans un seul sens. 2 * Quel est le grammage des feuilles de papier blanc ?

Je vous en prie, j’essayerai de respondre à vos questions en francais- 1. Vous avez raison- Sinon vous allez voir des lignes/marques sur le papier. 2. Vous pouvez utiliser ce que vous avez, le grammage n’est pas trop important. Mon fils m’a aidé avec la traduction de ma réponse 😋

NG B thanks! I think they are light because of the ink pad, but also because it is a thin layer of ink. You could try experimenting with the re-inker bottles if you have them to get more ink on the plate!

It is the small Gel Press plate, they are the only ones I have used, they are all very similar, hope that helps :)

Hi! I haven't tried laser prints yet as I don't have a copier, but I did think about trying with professional photo copy prints as they have a shiny finish to them (just need to find a shop with a copier...) :)

I don't think that Distress Oxides will work on fabric (it is meant for paper only and is not waterproof) but I think it would be worth trying the technique with acrylic paints (my other gel plate video shows some techniques with acrylic paint) hope that helps!

Thanks Ellie, I had not seen it anywhere but had seen it done with acrylic paint so I experimented! I am sure there will be other mediums that will work as the print on the magazine acts as a resist and leaves the ink on the gel plate, I found it works best with dark colours, with a high contrast picture from a quality magazine, and it doesn't always work perfectly! Hope that helps:)
