Watching this when it isn't live is stressing me out. I just want to tell Cristine everything but the time has passed! Like, notice how pig is becoming more worn over time, how each move brings another chick. How we started out with just a London bus but then as we traveled more, we had more objects representing where we've been, and how we didn't travel when we were with the boyfriend. AND that's not an etch a sketch, it's a drawing tablet for the computer because she writes/illustrates a book of her pig, which you can see sketches of through out the years. There is so much to "unpack" in this game. One of the greatest story lines of all time

On the topic of skirts, I actually have the exact opposite experience because I had a boss tell me that I shouldn’t wear skirts basically because he thought I was using my looks to get more sales. So I never wore one at that job again and I still got the highest sales 😂 I used to hate all things girly when I was young (grew up with brothers) but I grew to love skirts and the color pink because I stopped associating feminine with weak. And that’s my version of being feminine and a feminist. I like the things that I like, not because of their connotations with being a “typical” woman. All this to say that as long as you do and wear things for yourself and not for the expectations of others, we are all doing it the right way. Cristine and I have totally different styles, but it’s what we like and it doesn’t make either of us less feminine. Women should always support women 💖

So sorry to hear about Ben’s mom! What a rough couple of months for you two. 😢 In 2004 we put my elderly cat to sleep, my Dad died, then 17 days later his mom died, then his stepmom had an aneurysm and died while my Mom was on the phone with her, all in the span of about 6 months. One of those older 20 somethings that had to move back in with my parents after grad school! Covid prolonged that stay to like 2 and half years. Finally going to be moving out in September to go get my PhD and kind of my first research position! Im so excited to be moving on again. Its been a real blow to the self esteem to have to be at my parents for so long after being and feeling independent for like 8 years before that. It really helped to know there were a lot of people in my same position these last few years.

In terms of the "don't avoid sharing your political/sensitive stances with audiences and clients to maximise profits" point - I think it needs to be said that depending on your profession, it can be very detrimental to share these things. I'm a psychologist and am very private with my stances on sensitive topics because I don't ever want to undermine unconditional positive regard or make a client feel psychologically unsafe. Everyone deserves safe and effective healthcare and sharing my views on sensitive topics can jeopardise their access to that or willingness to try and access it again. I have been asked why I don't publicly support causes I agree with, and it is purely for this reason.

31:15 Thanks for talking about this Cristine😞I'm bi and I all of my friends at uni are queer in some way and we talk and joke about it a lot. I feel like whenever I'm home I have to hide a little bit about myself bc although my parents aren't homophobic, they feel differently about it when it comes to their own children. I tried to come out to my mom in tenth grade and she just didn't really bellieve me and told me I was too young to know myself or what I wanted (I had known I was bi for four years before I tried to come out to her lol). Going through something similar again with what I want to pusue in school and after college now and it's just frustrating to want to be a different person and live a different life than my parents want for me. They have such different views than I do on a lot of lgbt and career topics. Ig it's just part of growing up into your own person and beliefs, but I think a lot of young people struggle with that and it was nice to hear Cristine talk about that a little bit.

I don’t even see you and Ben as that old, and your parents are already passing away. But sending love, good thing you guys have each other and the kitties I haven’t had a significant family member pass away until my great uncle passed away last fall. I cried the day it happened but I was fine after that. I might visit his grave over the summer bc my extended family is all in Europe. And honestly, I’m not close with most of them… more on my mom’s side. I do like one of my cousins on my dad’s side lol But this unpacking stream reminds me of my journey. I just moved into my own apartment as a single lady last July- I was 25 (now I’m 26). I do have a kitty though, adopted her in September! But I’m a 1st gen European immigrant and it’s common to live with family/extended family for a while.

I think a lot of people who seemed to constantly attack cristine throughout the game were just being overly defensive. I think its because Cristine played this game more personally and 1st person than from a 3rd person perspective. She personified the character as herself more than I think the game was intended? So when she said "ew, skirts, i dont want these! I have to criticize the game for forcing ME to have a scale! We have a BABY? Get me out of here!" People took it as her saying these things are bad when they are just things she personally doesn't like, and she kept having to explain herself. But the gaming isn't forcing cristine to wear skirts, that is what the fictional character enjoys wearing. The fictional character might be working on weight loss for whatever reason instead of building strength like Cris does. The fictional character has a girlfriend/wife with whom they will share a child in the end, whereas Cristine is (to my knowledge) straight and doesnt want kids. The character isn't meant to be Cristine, it's meant to be the fictional character with her own likes and preferences, so I think people took her personal preferences/criticisms more critically and as general statements. I didn't expect so much heat (even aside from the perfectionist backseating from people who have played the game before) because I thought everyone kinda knew cristine doesn't care about what other people like. Just my observations though that could also be completely wrong haha

I actually kinda learned from your statement on the skirts. Like where you are talking about how you speak in relation to your experience and not anyone else’s. When you were bashing on skirts I didn’t take it personally, but I also didn’t take it from your perspective. I thought it was more a statement on the game/the creators. But it does make you think about who a persons intended audience is when making those statements; and in any context not just skirts.
@B-Rex5112 жыл бұрын
Expecting women to wear dresses and skirts is just antiquated gender profiling. Obviously any individual should wear what makes them feel good! I’ve only encountered a few situations like that, my grandma telling me that my Winnie the Pooh overalls were inappropriate for church and others would say mean things about me when I was 12 and a male friend who I worked with that came from a well to do family. (Also a Sorority imposed dress code, but I should have known better. They said they ‘did community service’ and that’s why I joined, naive baby me - LOL) Gender norms are so antiquated and dull.
