♦ Sims 1 - Sims 2 - Sims 3 - Sims 4: Beach and Ocean - Evolution

Hello everyone. I know by this point there's no much need for this since Realm of Magic is right around the corner, but I thought...why not?
So this is a not so brief comparison of the beaches and the sea/ocean in all of the sims games and they've come a long way. I feel bad for putting Sims 1 and Sims 2 against 3 and 4 because it's clear they didn't have the means to manage something as big as a whole sea back then, but anyways, here it is.
Sorry if there's something important missing but I had to cut loads of stuff, I wanted to show children interaction, the whole worlds of Sulani and Isla Paradiso, maybe a few touristic destinations from the other games but there's just sooo much I hope this summed up the most important parts.
Anyways, what's your opinion on these games? Were you impressed by Island Living?
My opinion?
Sims 1 didn't have the means to make the ocean work so they stopped at a beach lot, the vacation expansion has other neat stuff like icy and wooded areas so I understand why they fell so short.
Sims 2 is in a similar position, beaches were introduced in a vacation oriented pack called Bon Voyage so the ocean was not their top priority, the world they built was enjoyable for its time and as always there are some neat little details hidden.
Sims 3 used two packs to add to beaches, it started with Seasons and ended with Island Paradise, and man, it sure shows that there were 2 packs used and one of them was focused in the sea, this is the most fun experience from the sims in the beach in my opinion, granted, it's not the smoothest, at all, but if you can get you PC to quit lagging it's hard to get bored when you have so much to explore, there are underwater spaces, hidden islands and the world is huge! And those are just the basic aspects.
Sims 4 Island Living gave us a beach oriented neighborhood, it's pretty for sure, at first I didn't like the cleaning aspect but now it kinda grew on me, seeing how the world is affected is cool, altho I wish there were more interesting activities rather than just gather the trash and whatnot, that being said, when it comes to the actual sea it was disappointing not being able to visit, sure, the dolphin's cute but there's barely anything to do, I felt like I was done exploring within a few hours of the game. That being said, I like the details they introduced like dolphins, turtles, aqua zip tricks, the sand sculptures, and basically small details.

@amanda kenya havent replied to this thread in awhile but i no i feel like the sims 3 had more content. Take parenthood and generations for example. Both packs expanded upon the family dynamic which i loved But sims 3 you could send kids to boarding school and there was prom and you can actually ground your kids and the kids could sneak and get arrested by the police if they were out after curfew

Kids got imaginary friends and you could actually record stuff on the camera and watch it on the sims tv In sims 4 yea you can discipline your kids and they have phases they go through. (I dont think you can ground them) and if you have a high enough skill you can see your babies needs (which you could see in basegame in sims 3) i could go on but i dont wanna bombared you with an essay It's just that some sims 4 packs feels so empty and hallow compared to sims 3 packs

In Sims 2 if you build your house on a beach lot in custom neighborhoods that has roads with just the right distance from the sea (I use the Bluewater Village one), your dog will love to go down to the shore, sit down and watch the sea. Mine often did it.

I grew up on Sims 1 & 2 ( I had all eps & sps), I tried only Sims 3 base game. For reality, not just the beach, if you compare all 4 base games, Sims 3 is the best. It included really much with just base game, open world & no loading screens were the best part. At the start, Sims 3 reminded me of Sims 2 + cc (because Sims 2 had the best custom content, 3 added it as a store content cause Maxis saw how cc is profitable). Sims 4, despite getting better with certain eps, is really disappointing. Architecture is amazing, but honestly, base game without pools? Pets without birds? So many updates, game packs, eps, stuff... really too much. BUT still they didn't make any new major title that changed the game completely for the better new series, like the biggest jump from 1 to 2, so 2 was the most significant. However, just for playing, Sims 3 wins in my opinion.

Also still not available to add or delete lots in ts4 which is available since ts3 base game. I was shocked there’s no edit town mode in ts4 when it was released in 2014.

The Sims 3 wins this race by a longshot. You cannot compare the amount of thought, talent and most of all work that went into that single expansion pack, even against other expansions across the series. Nothing was more loaded, more playable, more beautiful than that pack. The closest a game got to competing was The Sims 3 Cats and Dogs, when they took it up a whole notch and added horses. I remember hearing The Sims 4 was coming out and asking myself what the creators were going to put into the new game. Farm animals? Zoos? Where there going to be underwater ocean WORLDS? There could be no end to the genius of the Sims!!! Ha. God I was stupid. Besides the fact that those graphics don't exist (yet), EA was so high on Sims 3 that they don't even care how low they let their customers drop. Sims 4 was supposed to build on everything that came before. Better graphics, better gameplay, and we got the graphics and barely more playability than The Sims. What makes it all the more depressing was Sims Guru Graham did the live stream for the Sims 3 Island Living Expansion Pack, and I think he did Sims 4 too. It makes the whole "we worked really hard on this and I'm so excited I get to show you guys what we've done!" feel much less genuine feeling the second time around, and makes the game itself much more half-assed. Like dude, your team has done better work. You were PART of that better work. Are you really proud of this? Can you honestly say this is an improvement? ME EITHER. Angry expansion pack rant over.

Why? - many different beaches - swimmable waters in every world and with caw even custom ones - fishing, snorkeling, diving and underwater gameplay - lifeguard career - many different boats, waterski, sailing, sea sickness - surfing (store set) - houseboats, waterfront lots, ladders, undewater lots - kraken, jellyfish, undewater monster in cave, mermaids, sharks, (crocodiles in the nile in Al Simhara) - every age group can be in the water other then baby's. - polar bear club moodlet, when swimming in winter. -combing for seashells, sandcastles hidden skill -remote islands with treasures (isla paradiso and custom worlds) I like the sims 1 volley ball. The Sims 4 fishing competition, dolphin and waterfall is also nice but the sims 4 is almost always looks over gameplay. Personally I think the ocean looks really fake, like a pool or something. Also why do we have these dumb limitations when building waterfront lots? Who would even choose the Sims 4 over the Sims 3 if it looked the same.

@The Biggest Fujoshi EA could easily release a Sims 6 just the same way they did with Sims 4. They only have to bloat up Sims 5 with way to many expansions so it starts to lag extremly. After that they can release a Sims 6 by removing all the fun features of Sims 5. xD

Yes and the worlds in Sims 2 were much bigger. I mean you could create your own world with as many plots as you wanted. In Sims 4 you get only like 1-4 plots per world without a house were you can build your own house. And often they are really small. So there can not be many households in the sims4 worlds. Also if you play one household in Sims 2 the other stay frozen. In Sims 4 if you play one household, the rest will play as well, even if you don't play them which can be annoying, if you want to play two households.

Put the CD back into your computer and try installing it again. Really wish they could make the Sims 1 a digital copy.

That's why I still play Sims 3. I did also play Sims 4 like twice but I prefer TS3. Also what I realized when I watched the trailer for Sims 4 was: they said that emotions are new in sims 4 but this tecnically ain't even true. In Sims 3 Sims can also be sad or happy, it ain't displayed as a general emotion but as a moodlet (I think that's what the little emote things where called)

Hopefully when they come out with Sims 5, it's to everyone's liking. Personally, I love that in Sims 3, the hair looks more realistic instead of like a cartoon character in Sims 4. Sims 3 does have better graphics, but it does lag a little...not much. When I play it for hours, it begins to lag. Sims 4 doesn't have that problem. I love all the different things about Sims 3. It's easier to install cheats and mods...as a young adult in the Sims 3, you get five trait slots instead of three...it's the little things I enjoy. But, there are things in Sims 4 that I love as well. Like in Realm of Magic...there's three different kinds of magic, Practical, Mischief and Untamed. I hope they keep that when making an expansion for Sims 5. But that's way in the future. And it's interesting to see the Sims in Sims 4 interact with each other and have human body movements when chatting, etc. I hope EA will combine all of these things, especially the open world concept. They gave it to us in Sims 3, then took it away in Sims 4. I understand they need to make room for other things, but it would be nice to get back in Sims 5. And the lagging...well, hopefully it won't happen in Sims 5.

Scoring these by each section here's how it goes for me. Beaches - Winner Sims 3 - Simply because beaches are in the base game world, plus many in other worlds. Beach Activities - Winner Sims 4 - The immersion of the activities are just done way better. (Honorable mention for Sims 1 with the volleyball, but most others are base game activities now.) Ocean Activities - Winner Sims 3 - The deep sea driving in several locations and include activities can't be ignored, plus more rides and house boats. Drowning - Winners Tie Sims 3 & 4 - Sims 3 because there's 2 different ways to drown. Sims 4 again it's just done more immersively. (Realism does count.) Extras - Winner Sims 4 - It's just the simple things. Footprints in the sand, dogs swimming in the ocean, skinny dipping, and more ocean life. The Verdict - It's a tie with Sims 3 & 4 - Both have pluses and minuses, but both have some good bells 'n whistles too that aren't in either game. (Honorable mention for Sims 4 graphics though, but graphics weren't part of this comparison.)

Sims 5 better have the option to turn on and off open world so they can satisfy both simmers who don't want to have a laggy experience and Sims who don't mind because they have good computers. Also we need to make customizable worlds like in the Sims 2

you just reminded me when i was 11 after i got my first sims 3 (basegame) and i took my sim to the beach to swim and I realized i can’t swim but can only fish. I thought that was soo weird so when Sims announced you can swim in the Season pack I literally ran to buy it omg good times

For me The most interesting thing in Sims 3 Beach is: Players can follow sims to the underwater and have some interactions down there. And Kraken!!!! In Sims 4 Beach: You can interact more with sea creatures. Glowing oceans, and skinny dip.

IIRC in Sims 3 when you're relaxing on the float your sim can read if there's a book in his inventory, the option appears in the float menu next to the relax one. just like with any bed too.

So I've never played any other of the Sims games except for Sims 4, since I just starting playing last summer. I know sooo many people really like Sims 3, and watching these comparisons, I can see why. Sims 4 is sooo beautiful and aesthetic, but Sims 3 has soooo much to do. And for a lot less game/expansion packs too.

You can collect and care for a bunch of different turtles in TS3. In TS4 you watch a 2 second animation loop as they magically fade into the ether. Super cute.
