Welcome, new viewers and old subscribers!!! ❤️ For anyone new: these are videos where I show off a little simulator program that's been my hobby coding project for several years now. I'm afraid there's NO release version at this time, and I don't want to promise anything soon, but if you like this project and want to follow along please join the Discord!
Today's video is that start of what I'm calling the v2.0 series. While I'm worried about confusing people, since v2.0 might leave the impression there's a release version out there, I used the term v1.0 years ago and want to keep the symmetry with that. Back then, what v1.0 meant for me was a moment where I'd added all the major features I'd planned and was just happy with the simulation's balance and wanted to see it run on a bunch of different worldmaps. Aaaaaand, that's also the case now! I'm very proud and happy with how this video turned out and where the simulator is right now! 🎉
There's always room for improvements, but after several months of tweaking and rebalancing, I feel a lot of systems work together better than ever before. I'm also going to be extremely busy next two to three months, so I don't really have time to add major new features. 😅
So that's why this series is mostly just going to show off what the simulator can do by running on different maps. I held a questionnaire on the Discord and will be running on the maps people most wanted to see, along with some new and old favorites of my own.
I hope y'all will enjoy! As always thank you so much for watching, liking, and subscribing! I would NOT be where I am today if I didn't have so many people cheering for me to keep at this project. ❤️❤️❤️

Its fascinating that the republic was able to stand for over a 1000 years without completely crumbling!

this was a nice one, cool to see the insane longevity and stability of states like slavihamalmi qosco and cumberly and then huge empires temporarily disrupting them. really reminds me of similar moments from real life

Thank you! Yes, I noticed that too! It made me really happy. It's the pay-off from several months of trying various things to improve balance to allow such things to happen! 🎉❤

I almost saw the republican remnants of the (second) greatest empire of their home continent rise like a pheonix from the ashes. Amazing Shoutout to how Great Bruiser was able to hold on and march into glory like a thousand years after their initial collapse

I found it interesting how in 2 of your other videos the first big game changing empire usually forms in the 2500~3000 year period yet the first major empire was at the year 3800 and collapsed shortly after beginning

Oh, yeah, you're right! Yeah, the factors determining when a big empire can rise are part environmental, part just random chance. But it's definitely meant to be variable so that different worlds have different histories and it's not always the same with a large empire rising around the same time and being equally stable etc. Some worlds get an early Alexander, others get more of a China, just depends on how the simulation plays out on that map and how the virtual dice roll. 😂

@@FWHSimulator It's so well thought out honestly! Id love to see the future simulations when they come out, I found this video interesting for its lack of a domineering conquest which made the competition so much more varied Amazing content, did you code this yourself? 👀

@@soopy6667 Thank you! 😊 I'm on a weekly schedule right now with a new video every Sunday. I'm trying to keep that up for the next couple of months at minimum, and hopefully for a lot longer. Though the simulator itself is staying mostly the same at the moment because I don't have much development time right now, hopefully having lots of different maps will help keep things varied. ❤ And yeah, I coded this all myself. With help from google and other sources, of course, and the map generator is mostly based on an open source project. But the simulator is a solo project, more or less. The first version was actually programmed in Excel if you'd believe it, that's the first video of the channel. I switched to Python immediately after though since Excel was not meant to be a simulator game engine. 😂

How does the Technology bar work with the different colors?
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 23 күн бұрын
It's a very imperfect representation because the actual technology mechanics are tile-based (there's no global or even state-wide technology, it's all per tile, as the Civilization map in the 4-way split at the end shows.) It just shows the highest level reached anywhere. As for the colors: The simulation has three different kinds of progression/advancements: 🟦 Blue represents cultural advancements. Meaning societal organization, developments that lead to greater urbanization and population density, etc.. 🟥 Red represents technological advancements. Meaning invention of new techniques, skills, scientific knowledge. Red advancements by themselves don't do too much, but they make Blue advancements possible. 🟪 Purple is just the overlap of Blue + Red both being present/discovered. ⬜ White is modernization and a high levels early industrialization. It is only possible to start modernization if a tile has reached max blue level, but modernization unlocks things like long-range colonization and other mechanics, like higher longevity for rulers. The simulation currently ends 50 years after a tile has reached max modernization. (That's why the final year varies from video to video, some worlds develop faster than others based on climate, amount of habitable land, etc.) That's why I show the highest technology on the bar, because it reflects how close the simulation is to finishing. Even though it's a very imperfect measure of the state of the world overall.

Is there elevation? And what are the darkened spots?
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 25 күн бұрын
There is elevation! The heightmap isn't always obvious but it's there and it impacts things like climate and defensiveness. The darkened spots in countries, I'm assuming you mean, are rebellions. The darkened tiles are in rebellion, that's why they sometimes disappear and sometimes take over the whole country. 😂

I found the game that this reminded me of, Worlds.
@FWHSimulator
@FWHSimulator 15 күн бұрын
Yeah! Worlds is/was really neat! Its map generation/graphics definitely a cut above mine. Shame it never seemed to have gotten very far on the simulation side. But it's tough to keep going on these projects when you've got real life demanding your time. I've gone through long hiatuses myself where I might never have come back if not for people on youtube and on discord cheering me on. ❤
