Also furthermore, while post-processing I really want to know that how can we obtain other parameters. For example: Say VAWT. The airspeed is 10m/s. @@rushikeshbadgujar8091 Hello dear Rushikesh, you should do a literature review at first because it seems that you do not have a background about the performance evaluation of turbines. The power coefficient is estimated based on the turbine angular velocity and its torque. Or the moment coefficient and the tip speed ratio. I showed how to monitor the angular velocity and you also can monitor the moment coefficient, then you can use the equations found in the literature and estimate the power coefficient. Danke!

Hello dear JA, you are very much welcome! CFX is used for turbomachinery that has fixed speed of rotation as a main characteristic of the machine. If the rotation of the rotor is not fixed and depends on the flow speed like some wind turbines, Fluent can be used for the dynamic mesh feature which I am not sure if it is available in CFX or not. But this is the main difference between the 2 programs, Fluent can be used to simulate any type of rotating machinery but CFX is used for fixed speed of rotation. Fluent is very powerful and has many options and turbulence models. Danke!

@@masirohatsune9375 You are welcome dear Lei, simply, open meshing, after following what I did, select the edge that describe the airfoil like what I did at 1:18:49 , the only difference from any other turbine I showed in other videos is here the airfoil seems to be not completed, this is because it is connected to the bar that is pinned at the origin. I wish you understand this point. This is a minor difference and I think it will not affect the results because this is what happens in the real life... Just do this without any further action and check out the monitor and tell me...Viel Erfolg!

Hello dear Amit, the UDF is only needed if the velocity is not constant like I said in the video. You check using the dynamic mesh in FLUENT by creating a new project using random geometry and see if the dynamic mesh tab will work or not. Danke!

Hello, no, because the turbine rotates from 0 to the specific velocity, the contours at the early simulation time may look like thise not like the fixed wind speed where you can find high magnitudes at any time of simulation. Here, the dynamic mesh starts from 0 velocity until the maximum or depending on the formula you enter. However, make sure to run the simulation for long durations to capture the realisitc changes in the speed magnitude and validate the results against a reference. Thanks

@@jeancarlos0596 I am not sure. Try to use the fixed wind speed not the dynamic mesh like my 1st video. If you get good results, try to trail the source of issue when you use the dynamic mesh. The dynamic mesh is not easy to simulate. Accordingly, start with the easy case then move to the 6dof and see what happens. Anyway I showed the general procedure and the ideas. However, you can change anything you dhave doubt about until you hit the target. The thumbnail I used for the video was generated from the simulation I run before recording. i remember Igott good results:) Thank you

Hello dear Leighton, okay sir, just decrease the timestep and see what happens. Sometimes we get a message " Negative volume detected" and when we decrease the time step, it works. So, reset the setup and decrease the timestep to a noticeable value and tell me if it works or not. Vielen Dank !

@@johanmejia2850 The inlet velocity may be constant or variable with another parameter. If constant even if it is the average of many values, we enter one value. Hello dear MD :) You are welcome ! I use CFX for Turbomachinery because it is easier than FLUENT. For the turbines' simulations, FLUENT is more powerful than CFX due to its many turbulence models and options. Also the user defined functions we use are written in C programming language and we import it into FLUENT easily. The majority of research papers show how powerful FLUENT is in this field. In CFX, we have to write a code using the CFX Expression Language"CEL". I only used it once in a turbine's simulation but without using a complex code. I wish this makes it clear :)..Vielen Dank !

We generally use the gravitational effect in simulations like solar heating or if the buoyancy will be studied. In simulations where the gravity is not in the direction of the flow motion, it is not considered. The turbine rotates in x-y plane and the gravity effect may not be included. Always check out the research articles and they mention the settings and the recommendations. It always depends on the experiment and the assumptions. Danke!

Here, we just take the effect of the wind forces on rotating the turbine.Thisis not like fixing the rpm as the other caes. Accordingly, no need to take the effect of the gravity. Hello sir. I am desperately need your help. After following your video, i have trouble to create surface planar for the 2d vawt. Since i sketched the vawt using solidworks, when trying to make surface planar it says that im selecting non planar or open surface, so i cannot proceed it.

Hello dear Azrie, the VAWT rotating domain was created by Autodesk Inventor, then I imported it into SOLIDWORKS after being 100% sure that no problem with the design, the problem you have may be due to a mistake in the drawing, the edges are not connected and this leads to open surfaces, make the method of the planar surface on a simple shape, a circle or a rectangle and see if it works or not, then check out again the turbine's edges...And tell me please the progress. Hello sir, I just finished sketched the vawt using inventor. The problem rn is when i saved in parasolid type file and open it in solidworks, it says that "inconsistent modeller version". Im using inventor v2018 and solidworks v2016. Is it because of the version?

It is because of the version, i opened it in SW 2018 and create planar surface and it went smoothly. I will let you know the progress later. Thankyou.

Hello dear Muhd, simply you can put references related to using this kinda simulations. You should do a search to find research papers about 6 dof dynamic mesh for VAWT. Also you can put the link of this video in the references as a guide tool if you like. Danke!

Sir very good video. Your video very helpful for me. I have follow your video to do a horizontal wind turbine simulation. Yet I received a warning "Interface zones overlap for mesh interface in2. This could adversely affect your solution." Do you have any idea on how to solve this issue? Or is it ok to just accept the results?.

Hello dear Jack, the interfaces are not correctly defined. Also the HAWT must be simulated using 3D modeling and in 3D modeling, the interfaces are automatically defined. Review again the steps and see. Get research articles related to modeling horizontal turbines to be sure of the procedure. Danke!

Hello, I am doing a 3d simulation of a Helical Ribbon Impeller. I follow all of your passes, but when I try to set the regions for the dynamical mesh, the fluent suddenly stops. I can’t copy and paste the error messages, but I think that is something about the MPI. Someone with more experience could give me some help? My computer is a Pentium dual core (I know, is very slow). I running the Ansys Student 2020 R1. I try to set Processing option to ‘Serial’, but there isn’t this option (If someone knows how to set this option, give me a tip). The UDF code is: #include "udf.h" DEFINE_CG_MOTION(impelidor,dt,vel,omega,time,dtime) { omega[0] = 0; omega[1] = 150; omega[2] = 0; }

Hello dear Edilson, sometimes we get this error because of something not right with the setup, maybe the UDF. At least, the computer should have 4GB RAM Core 5. Try to run other simple simulations and see. Also, do not use any UDF now and follow my setup and see if you can run the simulation or not. Danke!

@@haveanicetime Thanks for the advice! I replace my Ansys 2020 R1 with a older version, the 2019 R3. When I use the 6DOF code the fluent doesn't work, but at least I can configure without the fluent suddenly stops. I have another question. I define the dynamic mesh to the volume around the Impeller. Then I just want to set a constant rotational speed (omega) to the Impeller. For the dynamic mesh, do I need to set a 6DOF code to the Impeller, or I can just define a rotational speed to the Impeller in the bondary conditions?

Hello dear Edilson, for constant rotational speeds simulations, sliding mesh is used not the dynamic mesh approach. The dynamic mesh is used only to let the turbine rotate because of the wind speed. I have mentioned this in the video and you can watch my video about sliding mesh for 2D or 3D simulations. Danke!

@@haveanicetime Hello, thanks for the previous advice. I solve the problems with the configurations of the Ansys, now I am trying to validate my simulations with previous works data. The results are not so good. I am trying to understand why.I am using the same dimension of the impeller SH1 in the paper on the appendix . It's a Helical Ribbon impeller that rotates at high viscous fluid (8000cP).I am setting a mesh motion at the fluid and a rotation speed at the impeller in the boundary condition. Also the tank is stationary at no-slip condition. But when I calculate the Kp the result is very different from the experiment. I tried also using the dynamical mesh, and the result also was not good.Do you have any suggestions?

@@mohammadaiman3661 Hello dear Mohammad, watch my other tutorials about 3D VAWT without coding. You will find it about VAWT and a turbine ventilator. Check it out and if you have questions, ask please. But this is for the turbines which have a fixed rotating speed. If the turbine has a variable rotating speed, you must use the dynamic mesh like this video and I did not use any udf's. Danke!
