Prompted by your discussion of the Fun and Games struggle: there was an interesting writing discussion awhile back in a writing chat I was in where we were discussing that typically middles and endings are weaker because we're not really taught to practice them the way we're taught to practice beginnings. The idea that writing advice and editing advice centers on the first few chapters and pulling in your reader but typically less is said about what to do with weak middles and unfulfilled endings. I appreciated that it underscores the need to really practice the sections we feel weak in. That the discomfort probably just comes from having less knowledge, experience and being unsure of the toolkit to use.

absolutely agree! it's interesting how writing resources often delve into crafting captivating beginnings and fulfilling endings, but there's definitely a gap when it comes to developing substantial middles, especially in the context of romance novels. it's an area that could for sure benefit from more attention and guidance

To have a legitimate alpha reader would be a dream come true for me. My embarrassment is not having a way to make it worthwhile for them. 12:41 If gut instinct tells you to change up the room, do it. Any time it happens. The whole point of vlogs is to chat, so I don't abide the people who have a problem with you. Chat onward, Vee. Because you asked, my own writing is about to dip into one of the inactive periods. This time it's more out of necessity: all the current projects are in the pitch phase and I'm playing the waiting game on whether I'll have enough collaborators and resources to do the material justice. They vary in the medium of choice (one is a stage musical; two are online miniseries; one is a filmmaking experiment that might utilize VR) but none of them are an easy sell to small town artists who are becoming just as burnt out as I am. Sometimes I piss myself off in how a vision so clear in my head doesn't translate to an outline pitch. So all I can do is wait.

I don’t know if you’re familiar with Poets & Writers, but they also have lots of resources for writers, including a great database for literary publications and contests for submitting work. Maybe it’s leaning toward a US base 🤔 I’m not 100% on that, but hopefully that could have some helpful resources for people

This beta reader sounds more like a developmental editor than a beta reader. She may be selling herself short lol

I love this! You have pushed me to write and I love writing but sometimes it's hard to find balance since I'm in my last year of high school. I'm writing a novel right now but I can't even finish the first draft I really need tips!

Could you do a video explaining how you find alpha/beta readers… I have a couple projects that I’m too afraid to query bc I’ve never shown it to anyone 😅

Aww you're canadian too!! For the mimosa, people on private jets tend to not care if you're underage lol. You could leave it in, its very much a private jet thing to do.
